  • Patent number: 7421506
Abstract: The present invention concerns load balancing for control plane traffic of a network element comprising multiple CPU nodes assigned to a common external IP address in a packet data enabled telecommunication network. IP messages addressed to the network element are received, and received IP messages comprising GTP-C messages are identified. A TEID-C value of a GTP-C message is identified and the GTP-C message is forwarded to a CPU node based on its identified TEID-C value, if its identified TEID-C value does not equal zero.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 10, 2004
Date of Patent: September 2, 2008
    Assignee: Nokia Corporation
Inventors: Shaoji Ni, Timo Jokiaho, Mika Panhelainen, Mikael Latvala, Vesa-Pekka Takala

  • Patent number: 6167248
Abstract: For bidirectional transmission of packet data, a packet data service unit (Agent) is disposed in a digital time-division cellular network having a plurality of mobile stations and base stations, with at least one Base Transceiver Station (BTS) in each base station (BS) connected via radio communications channels with at least one mobile station (MS), and with a base station controller (BSC) connected to at least one BTS, and a Mobile Switching Center (MSC) connected to at least one BSC, which Agent connects the cellular network to a data network. As a mobile station is connected to the Agent, signalling related to connection formation characteristics of the network is first accomplished. As a result thereof, the mobile station and the Agent are provided with a number of stored parameters relating to each other. This situation creates or is called a virtual channel.

  • Patent number: 5896369
Abstract: A mobile communication system and a method for connecting a remote workstation to a data network via a mobile communication network, which allow a remote workstation to be connected more flexibly over a radio path by providing a special interconnecting computer in conjunction with a mobile exchange for extending the connection to a designation data network. The interconnecting computer thus acts as a bus between the remote workstation using the mobile communication network and its home data network, simulates the operation of the remote workstation towards the data network, and takes care of the real remote workstation, which is behind the radio path. A data connection established over the radio path can be released so as to minimize the air time when the radio path is not needed for telecommunication, but the interconnecting computer keeps the extended connection active towards the data network.

  • Patent number: 5889770
Abstract: A location management method is provided for packet data transmission in a mobile communication system. To reduce the amount of signalling for location management concerning packet transmission compared to location management concerning normal traffic, location data of the mobile stations utilizing a data service is updated in a special data service user database. Packets to these mobile stations are sent via the cells as indicated by location data in that database. The database resides in a data service center which interfaces a data network.

  • Patent number: 5802465
Abstract: For bidirectional transmission of packet data, a packet data service unit (Agent) is disposed in a digital cellular system connected to be in association with a Mobile Switching Center, and connecting the cellular network to the date network. As a mobile station is connected to the packet data service unit, signalling related to connection formation characteristics of the network is first accomplished. As a result thereof, the mobile station and the data service unit are provided with a number of stored parameters relating to each other. This situation creates or is called a virtual channel.
