  • Patent number: 9038934
Abstract: A fly reel comprises a housing having a back plate, a spindle extending from the back plate, a spool rotatably mounted on the spindle, an adjustable drag assembly fixed to the spool and rotatably mounted with the spool, the adjustable drag assembly is adapted to provide controlled friction against the spool during rotation of the spool, a crank member for rotating the spool in a first direction, and a one way clutch operatively associated with the spindle for permitting rotation of the crank member in the first direction only whereby the spool is adapted to rotate independent of the crank in a second direction that is opposite the first direction. In addition, the drag adjustment knob of the reel is disposed on the same side as the reel crank handle and the drag components may be sealed within a cartridge.

  • Patent number: 7866588
Abstract: This invention is a method for manufacturing a spinning reel from an extrusion and in particular the frame or housing of a spinning reel, the method comprises the steps of providing a single long bar single extrusion, the extrusion includes two regions, a first region comprises a hollow, tube-like portion and a second region comprises a filled portion, the filled portion extending exterior of the hollow portion and transverse to the longitudinal axis of the second region, cutting a blank from the end of the extrusion to form a blank and machining the blank to provide a frame or housing of a spinning reel. The invention is also directed to a spinning reel frame formed by an extrusion.

  • Patent number: 7055771
Abstract: A two-drag mode, front and rear configuration spinning reel has a trip mode selector switch means. This switch means lets the reel be used in the free spool shaft condition to rotate a rotor frame and take up line upon turning the handle, without automatically shifting the device into the condition of a locked up spool shaft. The switch also allows for both the automatic and manual modes at the preference of the user.

  • Patent number: 7025295
Abstract: A spinning reel has a level wind system wherein a slot is formed in the crosswind block. A lobe is carried on a crosswind gear. The surfaces of the lobe interact with the surfaces in the block. There are three curved surfaces on the lobe and four working surfaces in the block.
