  • Publication number: 20080002776
Abstract: A method of outputting media content is described. The media content is coded according to a predefined coding scheme to produce coded media content. Enhancement data, comprising information for selectively enhancing at least one portion of the media content, is also supplied. A corresponding method of providing media content is also described, including receiving enhancement data for selectively enhancing at least one portion of the media content and providing enhanced decoded media content for the at least one portion based on the enhancement data. By providing selective enhancements, e.g. of critical portions, a user experience can be improved without requiring a significant increase in bandwidth and enhancements may be delivered over a different channel to the basic data.

  • Publication number: 20070223582
Abstract: An image encoding-decoding system and related methods of operation includes an encoder for encoding a signal carrying a representation of an image and a decoder for decoding a signal carrying a representation of an image. The encoder comprising a first encoder for encoding a signal carrying a representation of an image at a first quality level; and a second encoder for encoding a signal carrying a representation of the image at a second quality level at greater quality than the first quality level. The encoder also comprises a mixer for mixing a factor of a signal carrying a representation of a prediction of the image at the first quality level and a factor of a signal carrying a representation of a prediction of the image at the second quality level to produce a mixed signal.

  • Patent number: 6069670
Abstract: A video processing method and system for motion compensated filtering of interlaced television signals comprising a motion estimation device for producing motion vectors corresponding to each output sampling site, a vector processor generating a set of input coordinates for each output sampling site depending on its corresponding motion vector, a data store in memory for storing input pixel values and providing a variable delay, a plurality of multipliers and corresponding coefficient stores, and an adder to sum the partial result from each multiplier, the multipliers multiply an input pixel value, selected from the data store depending on part of the input coordinate, by a coefficient selected from the coefficient store depending on another part of the input coordinate, the filter aperture (set of filter coefficients) is selected depending on the vertical velocity component of the motion vector supplied by the motion estimation device.
