Patent number: 9971291Abstract: A media path moves media sheets from a media supply, a print engine receives the media sheets from the media path, and a sensor detects a characteristic related to the media sheets. A drive nip continuously moves the media sheets, and a stall nip receives the media sheets from the drive nip. The stall nip is positioned less than the length of one of the media sheets from the drive nip. The stall nip alternately stops or moves the media sheets while the drive nip continuously moves the media sheets, as controlled by a controller, to cause the media sheets to buckle between the drive nip and the stall nip. The controller controls when to stop or move the media sheets to constantly vary the size of the buckle, and thereby make the buckle relatively larger for a first characteristic and make the buckle relatively smaller for a different characteristic.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2016Date of Patent: May 15, 2018Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Lakshmi Sujatha Yaramsetti, Veena Kumari Saluja, Colin William Robert Hewitt, Philip James Hambridge, Julius Cardozo, Timothy David Jonathan Spink

Patent number: 9690270Abstract: A method, non-transitory computer readable medium, and apparatus for cooling a device are disclosed. For example, the method sets at least one accumulator increment rate, an accumulator decrement rate, at least one threshold value, and an accumulator value maximum based on empirical data associated with the device, tracks an accumulator value up to the accumulator value maximum based upon productivity of the device, wherein the accumulator value is adjusted based on an integral of the at least one accumulator increment rate and the accumulator decrement rate and operates a fan of the device based upon the accumulator value rising above the threshold value or falling below the threshold value.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2014Date of Patent: June 27, 2017Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Timothy David Jonathan Spink, David Berke, Philip James Hambridge, Colin William Robert Hewitt, Veena Kumari Saluja, Christopher Francios David Watts, Lakshmi Sujatha Yaramsetti

Patent number: 9477174Abstract: This disclosure provides a method and system to adjust pixel density based on a weight and an accumulated pixel count of a printer cartridge. According to an exemplary method, the weight and the accumulated pixel count of the printer cartridge are calculated to determine a pixel density of the printer cartridge, and then a toner output of an associated printing device is adjusted if the pixel density is outside of a predefined pixel density threshold.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2016Date of Patent: October 25, 2016Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Alun Henry Hill, Timothy David Jonathan Spink

Publication number: 20160241736Abstract: Systems and methods for a multifunction device, a control system has a processor in data communication with a memory. A local user interface is connected to the control system. A portable data storage device is connected to a port. The local user interface provides user selection of one of mutually exclusive document delivery workflow operations under control of the control system. The local user interface provides user selection of a source for a document recipient's address according to one of the document delivery workflows. Upon selection of the source for the document recipient's address being the portable data storage device, the processor scans the portable data storage device and displays files containing addresses on the local user interface. The local user interface receives selection of designated recipient's address according to the selected document delivery workflow. The processor saves each the designated recipient's addresses in the memory.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 13, 2015Publication date: August 18, 2016Inventors: Veena Kumari Saluja, David Berke, Philip James Hambridge, Colin William Robert Hewitt, Timothy David Jonathan Spink, Lakshmi Sujatha Yaramsetti

Patent number: 8660442Abstract: According to aspects of the embodiments, there is provided an apparatus and method to detect when a consumable such as a toner bottle is replaced before end of life (EOL), throwing out toner that could be used for future printing incurs a cost. In metered accounts, the supplier incurs the cost of this waste. This disclosed process proposes monitoring the approximate rate of toner and then calculating the average amount of consumption per bottle since the last time the bottle was detected as empty. This then determines the toner consumption per bottle yield rate. Yield rate (YR) is calculated based on the estimated amount of toner delivered from a known bottle quantity at the point when the current bottle goes empty. The yield rate is displayed as a gauge on the user interface of the printer.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2011Date of Patent: February 25, 2014Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Timothy David Jonathan Spink, Dennis Gregory Gerbasi

Patent number: 8545376Abstract: A system and method are provided for creating tabs from regular cut-sheet stock after printing by partially punching out a section of a sheet and folding the punched out section back on itself at the remaining side. The location of the punched out section is such that when folded back, a portion of the punched out section sticks out beyond the border of the original paper size. Tab labels may be printed on the back side of the sheet so that when folded out, the tab label is in the correct orientation, i.e., facing front on the folded out tab. The punch head, which is used to punch out the section of the sheet, may be oriented flexibly and moved outboard or inboard. Tabs may be cut and folded to produce a readable set of tabs along any of the top, bottom, lead or trail edges of a sheet.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2009Date of Patent: October 1, 2013Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Timothy David Jonathan Spink

Patent number: 7526215Abstract: A printer includes at least one replaceable module which is removable from the printer. A processor discontinues an operation of the printer when the processor determines that an end of life value for the replaceable module is reached unless an appropriate identifier is input which allows the operation of the printer to continue beyond the end of life value. The identifier may be provided by a supplier at the end of life point, provided that an order for a replacement module is received.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2007Date of Patent: April 28, 2009Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Malcolm J. Moodie, Helen Frances Kirby, Timothy David Jonathan Spink, Derek John Milton, Stephen John Abbott, Patrick Leo Hoover, Eugene J. Carle, Dennis J. Reed
