  • Patent number: 7455179
Abstract: A shipping box (11), shipping box and pallet assembly (10), and a blank (B1, B2, B3) for making the shipping box. The box has integral attaching tabs (38) projecting downwardly therefrom, with at least one slot (31, 32) therein for receiving an extended end (41) of at least one slat (40) on a pallet (13), to releasably attach the box to the pallet. A reinforcing insert (70) is placed in the box against opposite walls. The insert has a center panel (77) of the same width and height as the box wall against which it is placed, and double thickness end panels (78) at opposite sides of the center panel, extending perpendicular to the center panel and lying against adjacent box walls.

  • Patent number: 6390170
Abstract: A manufacturing apparatus and method for facilitating, locating and securement of supports or cushioning blocks on a container panel includes a table for receiving the container panel and a bi-directionally, vertically movable frame which receives a template. The frame is raised and lowered by one or more linear actuators which may be double acting, hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders, ball screw operators or similar devices. The template includes a specific pattern of openings which correspond to the desired locations of supports or cushioning blocks. A container panel is placed on the table, the template is disposed in the frame and the frame is lowered onto the panel. An adhesive such as a hot melt adhesive is distributed on the panel through the openings and the supports or cushioning blocks are positioned according to the template on the panel. The frame and template are then lifted off the pad and the completed panel is removed from the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5918744
Abstract: A shipping container system and method of construction therefor are provided which includes a container with an integrated pallet assembly. The system includes an inner shell, an outer shell, a cover assembly, and a pallet assembly. The outer shell is formed from a single sheet of material, preferably high strength cardboard and is cut and bent such that four panels are created, each having a flap. The outer shell also has several holes located in the panels. The inner shell is formed in a similar manner, also having four panels, each with a flap. The pallet assembly includes a floor panel supported by several runners having notches. To assemble the shipping container system, the inner shell is placed within the upper portion of the outer shell and the pallet assembly is inserted into the lower portion of the outer shell. The outer shell panel flaps are then folded to provide support for the pallet assembly from underneath.
