Abstract: The present invention provides improved racing horseshoe cleats and horseshoe traction systems. In one embodiment, a horseshoe traction system (100) comprises a horseshoe (102) having a curved medial portion (104) ending in two heel portions (106), an upper surface (108) adapted to engage a horse's hoof and a lower surface (110). A cleat (10) is removably attachable to the horseshoe lower surface. The cleat comprises a base portion (12) and a generally X-shaped projection (20) extending from the base. The X-shaped projection provides anterior to posterior, as well as lateral stability.
