  • Patent number: 7688959
Abstract: A system and method for allowing remote callers to access a secure telephone network maintains a registry (i.e. a database) of all remote callers that have access to the network. The registry contains an electronic serial number (ESN) and a personal identification number (PIN) for each remote caller. The ESN is typically the serial number of the callers cellular telephone. Alternatively, the ESN is a phone number of the remote caller's telephone. To establish a connection, the remote caller calls a private branch exchange (PBX) of the secure network. Upon receiving the call, the PBX compares the ESN and PIN of the remote caller with the ESN and PIN stored in the registry. If a match is found, the PBX authenticates the remote caller and allows the connection. The remote caller may have full access or access limited by a connection policy.

  • Patent number: 7689595
Abstract: A method of and system for capturing and updating travel directions in a user's local address book application. The method comprises the steps of determining a current location profile of the user, calculating a user trajectory using that profile and an intended destination, and adding the current location profile and the intended destination into a historical database. The user's local address book is checked for an entry for the address of said intended destination; and if that entry is not in the address book, the entry is created in the address book. That entry is then checked to determine if a direction/map field of the entry contains directions/map information. If the entry does not contain this information, then this information is mined from a network source and added to the address book. This direction/map information is then displayed.

  • Patent number: 7595717
Abstract: A computer program product for providing an intelligent event notification system includes instructions for implementing a method. The method includes selecting a type of event notification for an event. Determining the type of event notification is based in part on information elements associated with the event. The method also includes determining at least one optimal alert system to receive an event notification corresponding to the type of event notification selected. The determination is based in part on information elements associated with the event. The method further includes associating an alert trigger with the event notification and transmitting the event notification to the at least one optimal alert system upon activation of the alert trigger. The event notification type includes a supplemental information notification specifying activities to be performed in advance of, or in preparation for, the event.

  • Publication number: 20090240849
Abstract: The Distributed Virtual I/O Tool replaces dedicated VIO server LPARs by distributing the virtual I/O functions across several application LPARs connected by a high-speed communication channel. The physical I/O devices are distributed across available LPARs. The Distributed Virtual I/O Tool assigns each I/O request to an appropriate I/O device. The Distributed Virtual I/O Tool monitors each I/O request and reassigns I/O devices when performance drops on a specific device or when a device is no longer available.

  • Patent number: 7561050
Abstract: The Automatic RFID Tuner has one or more RFID repeaters that can travel in the x, y and z axes through a densely packed pallet of goods. The RFID repeater identifies dead spots where RF signals from an RFID transceiver do not penetrate the dense packaging. The RFID repeater calculates a position that ensures the RF signal will reach all passive RFID tags in the dense packaging. The RFID repeater moves to the calculated position so that the RFID transceiver's signal will read all passive RFID tags in the dense packaging.
