  • Publication number: 20150181577
Abstract: A method for configuring a search space within which a mobile terminal performs blind decoding attempts for potential control message candidates which may be transmitted by a base station. The frequency domain resource for which the terminal performs a blind decoding attempt for a given candidate message is determined by a pseudo-random selection (known by both terminal and network) from a pre-determined set of possible resources. A pre-determined set of resources can be different for each candidate. In one embodiment the set of resources is configured by the network for each terminal and each candidate. The method may be applied for example to ePDCCH of an LTE-A wireless communication system.

  • Publication number: 20150016350
Abstract: A Small Cell Network in which a terminal (1) is simultaneously served by a macro cell (10) and one or more small cells (20, 22, 24). When suitable uplink resources are not provided for data (PUSCH), the terminal (1) selects a cell and/or resource on which to transmit a scheduling request, or if no resource is allocated for scheduling requests (SR) the invention allows the terminal to select a suitable uplink cell and/or signature for a random access transmission (PRACH), and/or characteristic of a signal used to request such resources. A RACH transmission may also take place if SR has been transmitted more than a defined number of times without PUSCH resources being granted. Use of the most appropriate cell/resource for the request will improve the achievable data rate and system capacity.

  • Publication number: 20140349645
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a new way for a UE to autonomously indicate to the network from which transmission points (TPs) it is able to receive certain broadcast signals. As an example, by receiving in a broadcast signal in the form of a synchronization sequence, the physical identity of a particular TP, a UE infers when it should, if it wishes, send on an UL an indication of its ability to receive the broadcast signal from that TP—i.e., an indication of its presence in the coverage of the TP. The network is then able to take suitable action in response to this, such as adjusting network coverage, enabling or disabling other broadcast channels and controlling paging.

  • Patent number: 8873496
Abstract: A method is disclosed which is intended for use in multiple-input multiple-output wireless communication systems which have a plurality of adjacent cells (cell A, cell B, cell C, cell D), each containing one or more base stations which co-operatively transmit signals to, and receive signals transmitted from, a user equipment (UE). The user equipment is operable to feed back to the relevant base station(s) CSI reports relating to channel(s) between the relevant base station(s) and the users, the base stations are operable to adapt signals for transmission to users, based on the fed back channel state information. The method involves the UE being configured to select at least one cell to be the subject of a CSI report, and to send the CSI report with an indication of the subject cell(s). Feedback overhead on the uplink is reduced when many cells co-operate in transmission to the user equipment.

  • Publication number: 20140226649
Abstract: Cell-specific or transmission point (TP)-specific information is indicated to a UE based on the subframe in which a cell/TP transmits its primary and secondary synchronization sequences (PSS and SSS). The principal scenario of interest is a dense deployment of picocells/TPs which are under the control of an overlaid macrocell's eNodeB. Since the antenna port from which PSS/SSS are transmitted can change between subframes, the invention associates some information (such as zero power CSI-RS) related to the picocell/TP transmitting the PSS/SSS with a particular PSS/SSS and subframe combination. The table of associations can be provided by signalling from the macrocell eNodeB, and the information being associated can then be obtained by the UE from any picocell/TP it is in range of without additional signalling being necessary.

  • Publication number: 20140105164
Abstract: A scheme for transmission of control channel information in a compact form intended to support SPS (Semi-Persistent Scheduling) in a wireless communication system. As applied to LTE, the scheme is to indicate a pre-configured UE-specific resource allocation in a Downlink Control Information (DCI) format containing information for multiple UEs in the same PDCCH. In order to avoid increasing the number of blind decodes, the DCI format size may be the same as an existing DCI format. Preferably the size of the new format is the same as that of DCI formats 0/1A/3/3A. The number of required bits per UE is minimised by signalling only one of a limited set of DCI messages per UE. The scheme provides a means for re-configuring SPS resources for multiple UEs using a single PDCCH transmission, whilst enabling better support for variable packet sizes and variable intervals between packets than currently defined SPS.

  • Publication number: 20130279412
Abstract: In a heterogeneous network based on LTE, the random access, RA, procedure triggered in a macrocell produces transmissions from a UE (20) on the physical random access channel, PRACH, which a picocell eNB (12) can attempt to make measurements of for interference coordination purposes over the X2 interface between the macro eNB (10) and the pico eNB (12). By reconfiguring the UE's behaviour during principally the contention-free RA procedure, its transmissions on PRACH are made different to the default such as to be suitable for heterogeneous network interference measurements. This is done by assigning new meanings to certain of the characteristic parameters provided by the macro eNB (10) to the UE (20), such as the RA preamble it uses and the C-RNTI it is assigned during the procedure.
