Patent number: 8029024Abstract: A tube coupling includes a coupling body (10) having an open ended throughway (11) to receive a tube (16). A collet (20) is located in the open end of the throughway having a ring (21) and a plurality of flexible arms (22) extending into the throughway. The throughway has a tapered cam surface (25) convergent towards the open end and the collet arms have heads (23) at their distal ends for engaging both the cam surface and a tube extending through the collet into the throughway to be compressed against the tube by the cam surface with outward movement of the collet with respect to the throughway to secure the tube in the throughway. A collet lock (27) is rotatably mounted on the coupling body having one rotary position in which the lock holds the collet (20) and another rotary position in which the collet can move axially.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2009Date of Patent: October 4, 2011Assignee: John Guest International LimitedInventor: Timothy Stephen Guest

Patent number: 8001989Abstract: A liquid flow control device has a port or passageway through which liquid flow is to be controlled. A body of a liquid swellable material is located in the port or passageway having an upstream side and a downstream side in relation to the direction of liquid flow through the port or passageway. A layer of sealing material is provided on the upstream side of the body to prevent contact of that side of the body with the liquid when the body is swollen to close the port or passageway whilst allowing contact of the downstream side of the body when the body is in the non-swollen condition allowing liquid flow through the port or passageway.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2010Date of Patent: August 23, 2011Assignee: John Guest International LimitedInventors: John Derek Guest, Timothy Stephen Guest

Patent number: 7686349Abstract: A tube coupling includes a body having a cylindrical projection to engage in a tube to be secured to the body. A grab ring is mounted by arms having openings to snap onto abutments on the coupling body. The grab ring encircles with a clearance the projection and engages an outer surface of a tube pushed onto the projection to grip and resist withdrawal of the tube from the projection.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2007Date of Patent: March 30, 2010Assignee: John Guest International LimitedInventor: Timothy Stephen Guest

Patent number: 7506658Abstract: A liquid flow control device includes an annular housing having an inlet for liquid in one periphery of the housing and an outlet for liquid in the other periphery. An annular block of water swellable material is located in the housing. A layer of sealing material encircles the annular block on the side thereof adjacent the inlet to close the inlet when the block is swollen through contact with the liquid.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2006Date of Patent: March 24, 2009Assignee: John Guest International LimitedInventors: John Derek Guest, Timothy Stephen Guest

Patent number: 7422248Abstract: A collet for locking a tube in a tube coupling body is moulded in plastics and comprises an annular collar having a plurality of arms extending from the collar generally parallel to the collar axis. Each arm has a head at its distal end spaced from the collar for engaging between a tube and coupling body to lock the tube in the coupling body. Different materials are used for the heads of the collet and the rest of the collet whereby the heads are stronger and relatively rigid whereas the rest of the collet is relatively flexible.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2005Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: John Guest International LimitedInventor: Timothy Stephen Guest

Patent number: 6053537Abstract: A connector for coupling a tube to an annular boss of a vessel wall, the annular boss having a wall with an inner surface. The connector includes a coupling body having first and second end portions with a throughway extending between the first and second end portions. The first end portion is adapted to receive and retain the tube. The second end portion includes an encircling seal and a grab ring to engage and retain the second end portion in the annular boss. The coupling body includes a sleeve encircling the second end portion, and an annular gap located between the sleeve and the second end portion for insertion of the wall of the annular boss into the annular gap to engage the seal and the grab ring, so that the sleeve supports the wall of the annular boss.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1998Date of Patent: April 25, 2000Assignee: John Guest Engineering LimitedInventor: Timothy Stephen Guest
