  • Publication number: 20040174446
Abstract: A sensor for color and depth information capture is disclosed. A filter passes selected wavelengths according to a predetermined pattern to the sensor. The sensor measures light intensities passed by the filter. In one embodiment, the wavelengths passed by the filter correspond to red, green, blue and infrared light. The intensity values can be used for interpolation operations to provide intensity values for areas not captured by the sensor. For example, in an area corresponding to a pixel for which an intensity of red light is captured, interpolation operations using neighboring intensity values can be used to provide an estimation of blue, green and infrared intensities. Red, green and blue intensity values, whether captured or interpolated, are used to provide visible color image information. Infrared intensity values, whether captured or interpolated, are used to provide depth and/or surface texture information.

  • Patent number: 6775413
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are disclosed in which one dimensional image compression, such as for bi-level images, is implemented. An integrated circuit includes digital logic circuitry and digital memories. The digital logic circuitry and digital memories are coupled so as to implement one dimensional compression of a bit stream to be applied to the digital logic circuitry and digital memories without performing arithmetic operations. One of the digital read only memories stores, for a plurality of run lengths, a memory address for a make up code and a memory address for a termination code for the respective run lengths.

  • Publication number: 20040131229
Abstract: A method of encoding a watermark into a digital image. The method includes partitioning an original image into blocks and then determining a variance value of each block. The blocks are then arranged according to the variance values. A number of selected blocks are identified, where the number depends upon the size of the watermark. The blocks selected are then arranged by their location. Data from the watermark is used to replace bits in a representation of each of the selected blocks with data from the watermark. A method of decoding is also discussed.

  • Patent number: 6748118
Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a method of quantizing signal samples of an image during image compression includes the following. A process to transform the signal samples from a first domain to a second domain is applied. During the transform process, signal samples are filter, by first applying scaled filter coefficients to signal samples along the image in a first direction and then applying scaled filter coefficients to signal samples along the image in a second direction, so that at the completion of the transform process of the image, selected regions of the transformed signal samples are quantized by a common value. Many other embodiments in accordance with the invention are also described.
