Patent number: 9268835Abstract: Systems and methods are directed to an eventually consistent replicated data store that uses, for its underlying storage, a computer software library that provides a high-performance embedded database for data. The replicated data store employs a plurality of hosts interconnected to one another, allowing for writes to any host and full awareness of membership across all hosts. With the data replication framework, various modes are allowed to be built up on top of the core system.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2013Date of Patent: February 23, 2016Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Brian S. Patent number: 9246996Abstract: A storage management system monitors an indicator of durability of a dataset hosted by a current implementation resource, such as a storage server. The indicator may be used to determine whether none, some or all of the data storage should be moved from the current implementation resource to an available implementation resource.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2012Date of Patent: January 26, 2016Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Marc J. Brooker, David R. Richardson, Tate Andrew Certain, Tobias L. Holgers, Madhuvanesh Parthasarathy

Publication number: 20150234716Abstract: The relative health of data storage drives may be determined based, at least in some aspects, on data access information and/or other drive operation information. In some examples, upon receiving the operation information from a computing device, a health level of a drive may be determined. The health level determination may be based at least in part on operating information received from a client entity. Additionally, a storage space allocation instruction or operation may be determined for execution. The allocation instruction or operation determined to be performed may be based at least in part on the determined health level.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 6, 2015Publication date: August 20, 2015Inventors: Marc J. Brooker, Tobias L. Holgers, Madhuvanesh Parthasarathy, Danny Wei

Publication number: 20150039771Abstract: Methods and apparatus for interfaces to manage virtual network interface objects. A system may include resource instances and a network interface virtualization coordinator. Responsive to a record creation request, the coordinator creates an interface records that may include an IP address, subnet information and security properties. The coordinator may, in response to a request to attach the record to a resource instance, enable traffic directed to the IP address to flow to the resource instance. In response to a subsequent detach request, the traffic to the IP address may be disabled at the resource instance. The same interface record may be attached to another resource instance in response to another attach request, enabling traffic directed to the IP address to flow to the second resource instance.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 17, 2014Publication date: February 5, 2015Applicant: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: ERIC W. SCHULTZE, AARON C. THOMPSON, ARIJIT GANGULY, PADMINI C. IYER, TOBIAS L. HOLGERS, CHRISTOPHER J. LEFELHOCZ, IAN ROGER SEARLE

Patent number: 8447948Abstract: Management of a data cache having a compressed portion and an uncompressed portion by adaptively and dynamically allocating the relative amount space each portion receives. The relative sizes are defined based on one or more cost metrics and benefit metrics. The metrics are selected based on the performance of an application utilizing the cache. An optimized benefit relative to the cost is defined. Application operations on the cache are sampled and the relative cost and benefit is determined for different ratios of uncompressed to compressed cache sizes. The size of the uncompressed portion relative to the compressed portion is then re-adjusted based on an optimal cost-to-benefit ratio for the application.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2008Date of Patent: May 21, 2013Assignee: Amazon Technologies, IncInventors: Ozgun A.
