Patent number: 10794015Abstract: A screed assembly for a paving machine is disclosed including a main screed portion and a screed extension portion being laterally exterior to the main screed portion. Furthermore, a screed extension tube is coupled to a screed frame and a screed extension portion frame, the screed extension tube adjusts a width of the screed extension portion. The screed assembly may further include an extension tube support mechanism having a bushing circumferentially surrounding the screed extension tube and disposed within a bushing recess defined in the screed extension portion frame. The extension tube support mechanism further having a retainer ring that circumferentially surrounds and is in direct contact with at least a portion of the bushing, and the retainer ring is capable of being adjusted between the bushing and the screed extension portion frame to eliminate an uncontrolled movement of the screed extension tube and the screed extension portion.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2018Date of Patent: October 6, 2020Assignee: Caterpillar Paving Products Inc.Inventors: Ryan J. Schuette, John Jorgensen, Tobin D. Rasmusson

Patent number: 9181662Abstract: A screed assembly includes a screed assembly frame and a screed plate removably connected to the screed assembly frame to define a space between the screed assembly frame and the screed plate. A heating element and a hold down device for securing the heating element can be provided in the space between the screed assembly frame and the screed plate. The heating element is configured to be removed from the space by sliding the heating element out of the space and disengaging the heating element from the hold down device without removing the screed plate from the screed assembly frame.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2013Date of Patent: November 10, 2015Assignee: Caterpillar Paving Products Inc.Inventors: Jason Kopacz, Timothy Wehrenberg, Joseph P. Spee, Tobin D. Rasmusson, Igor Ramos, LaTanya Turner, John Jorgensen

Patent number: 8517630Abstract: Asphalt paving machine includes screed assembly, plurality of lower and upper plate fasteners, and upper and lower screed plates, each having openings, and an electric heater at least partially disposed between the plates. Upper and lower plate fasteners extend into openings of the respective upper and lower screed plates and bores of a frame portion of the screed assembly to couple the plates to the frame portion. The upper plate fasteners couple the upper screed plate to the frame portion independently of the lower screed plate, so the lower plate is displaceable from the upper plate and the frame portion.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2011Date of Patent: August 27, 2013Assignee: Caterpillar Paving Products Inc.Inventors: Luke E. Graham, Jason W. Kopacz, Tobin D. Rasmusson, Timothy L. Wehrenberg

Patent number: 8371770Abstract: A tamper bar mechanism includes a drive shaft with an eccentric section on the shaft. A tamper drive member is driven by the eccentric section and drives a tamper bar between an upper position and a lower position to define a tamper stroke length. A stroke adjustment link is operatively connected to the tamper drive member and a stroke adjustment mechanism is operatively connected to the stroke adjustment link to adjust an angular orientation of the stroke adjustment link relative to the path of travel of the tamper bar and adjust a length of the tamper stroke length. A paving machine and a method of adjusting the tamper stroke length are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2012Date of Patent: February 12, 2013Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Tobin D.
