Patent number: 10880618Abstract: Techniques are disclosed herein that provide a TV receiver that supports a set of existing iTV standards and proprietary iTV implementations. Further, the TV receiver can be extended to support additional iTV standards and proprietary iTV implementations. A digital television data stream is received and processed by a client. The digital television data stream is analyzed to determine which interactive television format is present. A registry of interactive television virtual machines is searched to determine whether a virtual machine is registered for the interactive television format. Each of the interactive television virtual machines is adapted for one of the interactive television formats. If a virtual machine that matches the interactive television format is found, it is loaded and hosted. Hosting the virtual includes providing services to the virtual machine through common application programming interfaces (APIs) machine includes. The common APIs may be used by any virtual machine that is loaded.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 2015Date of Patent: December 29, 2020Assignee: Rovi Technologies CorporationInventors: Edward Goziker, Toby Steele, Tim Zobel, Pavel Glozman, Ross Hewit

Patent number: 9445112Abstract: A secure transcoder assembly features a secure data path where the related crypting and coding functions are secured in the secure data path. More specifically, during transcoding the ingress (received) encrypted video data is decrypted and copied from application memory (that is accessible to the application processor) to secure memory (that is inaccessible to the application processor) by security processor(s). Once in the secured memory, this video data is transcoded. The video data, now in its transcoded form, is re-encrypted by the security processor(s) during the transfer back to application memory for egress (continued transmission). The mode for the re-encrypting may be managed by the application processor via a crypto API, and the application processor may further feature an opaque handle on the data when it is passed to the secure region.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2012Date of Patent: September 13, 2016Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Mario Vera Culebro, Pradip Fatehpuria, Douglas Steedman, Senthil Kumar Gnanasambandam, Toby Steele, Hemant Malhotra

Patent number: 8578425Abstract: Detailed herein is a technology which, among other things, allows recording and playback of multi-stream interactive television. In one approach to this technology, the service configuration for an interactive television feature is determined. Data describing this service configuration is then obtained, and a recording device is then configured to record a portion of the interactive television feature. A number of data streams associated with that portion of the interactive television feature are recorded. The recorded portion of the interactive television feature can then be displayed.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2012Date of Patent: November 5, 2013Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Toby Steele, Renaud Bordelet, Glenn Curtis
