  • Patent number: 7239031
Abstract: An apparatus for generating power from over the road vehicular traffic and moving trains are disclosed. The apparatus include on or more hydraulic actuators, each of which has a piston at least partially slidably mounted in a fluid cavity contained therein. When a passing vehicle or train car engages the actuator, the weight of the vehicle pushes the piston into the fluid cavity and causes fluid to flow from the fluid cavity toward a turbine or other power conversion means. The flow causes the turbine to rotate, thereby producing useable energy.

  • Patent number: 6756694
Abstract: An apparatus for generating power from vehicular traffic is disclosed. The apparatus includes a plurality of cylinders, each of which has a piston slidably mounted therein and a fluid cavity beneath the piston. Each of the pistons has an upper face which is extendable above a road surface so as to be engageable by passing vehicles. When a passing vehicle engages a piston, the weight of the vehicle pushes the piston downwardly and causes fluid to flow from the respective fluid cavity toward a turbine or other power conversion means. The flow causes the turbine to rotate, thereby producing useable energy.

  • Patent number: 5979364
Abstract: A modular animal transportation crate includes a plurality of panels that form the floor, walls, doors and ceiling of the crate. The panels are connected to each other by panel and section connectors. The panels may include perforations which protrude away from the animal. The perforations provide ventilation through side and top when used as walls or ceilings and assist in the removal of waste products when serving as the floor. The inventive crate is preferably made of a strong lightweight material that is easily assembled, disassembled and re-assembled. The crate may also be used to transport animals and to house the animals at remote locations.

  • Patent number: 5950566
Abstract: A cage that includes two or more movable "walls" that can restrain an animal in two or more dimensions is disclosed. Preferably, the invention includes "telescoping" or movable planar surfaces, one preventing an animal's lateral movement, and another preventing vertical movement. An animal restrained in the inventive cage reduces the possibility of injury to the handler and the animal. In addition, it can be used to accommodate animals of differing sizes, because the walls of the disclosed restraining cage are movable.

  • Patent number: 5441016
Abstract: A giraffe handling chute designed to confine and secure a giraffe for veterinary and hygienic care includes a confining structure with a frame connecting a fixed wall assembly and an opposing, movable wall assembly. The movable wall assembly is selectively movable toward and away from the fixed wall assembly along the frame to securely hold the giraffe. The confining structure is adjustable vertically via telescoping members at the bottom and top of the frame, and the entire confining structure is rotatable relative to a support assembly such that the confined giraffe can be rotated to a position in which it is lying on its side. Other features include pivoting leg restraints and torso support flaps and a removable neck restraint assembly and neck support assembly for immobilizing and supporting the neck of a confined giraffe during sedation and/or rotation.

  • Patent number: 5282441
Abstract: A large animal handling chute designed to accommodate an elephant includes a fixed wall assembly and an opposing, movable wall assembly. The movable wall assembly is selectively movable toward and away from the fixed wall assembly upon movable supports traversing a pair of top and a pair of bottom support rails. The movable wall is independently pivotable at each of the movable supports. Four leg straps, two body straps, and a body support flap are provided to secure the elephant within the chute, and the entire chute including the confined elephant is rotatable about a pivot support to make the elephant's feet and legs accessible to a handler. A floor is hinged to the fixed wall assembly and can be hydraulically lowered to a horizontal position once the chute is rotated. The lowered floor thus provides a convenient work platform for an animal handler or veterinarian.
