Patent number: 10426703Abstract: A vial adapter is provided for interconnecting a vial having a closure and a fluid delivery device such as a safety syringe. The vial adapter comprises an adapter housing having a base, a shroud extending or projecting from the base and a cannula extending or projecting from the base for penetrating a rubber seal on the vial closure to thereby establish fluid communication between the vial and the vial adapter. The shroud may comprise a plurality of latitudinal slits or windows within each of which resides a flexion arm connected to the shroud, each flexion arm capable of engaging and/or retaining vial closures of any of a variety of different sizes. The vial adapter may comprise a conduit tip in fluid communication with the cannula to allow transfer of fluid to or from the safety syringe while also preventing inadvertent activation of a safety syringe needle retraction mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2013Date of Patent: October 1, 2019Assignee: UNL Holdings LLCInventors: Robert Scott Russo, Jeffrey M. Johnson, Christopher C. Rafferty, Tod H. Brenner, Gautam N. Shetty

Patent number: 10342966Abstract: A barrel adapter mountable to a syringe barrel includes a barrel tip, a needle assembly, a stylet assembly slidably disposed within a needle lumen of the needle assembly, and a plug within the lumen of the needle. An implant delivery syringe includes a barrel, a plunger assembly, and the barrel adapter. The syringe may include a needle retraction mechanism having a biasing member and an actuable locking arrangement. When the actuable locking arrangement is actuated, the biasing member causes the needle to axially translate over the stylet during retraction to dislodge the plug and cause delivery of an implant to a target location. The plug may be a biodegradable polymer plug such as a water-soluble polymer, PLGA, and/or CARP. The stylet may be retracted following delivery. Methods of assembling implant delivery syringes with drug implants are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2015Date of Patent: July 9, 2019Assignee: UNL Holdings LLCInventors: Gautam N. Shetty, Aaron M. Weir, Christian P. Brandt, Lou Castagna, Tod H. Brenner

Publication number: 20150238745Abstract: A barrel adapter mountable to a syringe barrel includes a barrel tip, a needle assembly, a stylet assembly slidably disposed within a needle lumen of the needle assembly, and a plug within the lumen of the needle. An implant delivery syringe includes a barrel, a plunger assembly, and the barrel adapter. The syringe may include a needle retraction mechanism having a biasing member and an actuable locking arrangement, the locking arrangement initially maintains the biasing member in an energized position. When the actuable locking arrangement is actuated, the biasing member causes the needle to axially translate over the stylet during retraction to dislodge the plug and cause delivery of an implant to a target location. The plug may be a biodegradable polymer plug such as a water-soluble polymer, PLGA, and/or CAHP. The stylet may be retracted following delivery. Methods of assembling implant delivery syringes with drug implants are also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2015Publication date: August 27, 2015Inventors: Gautam N. Shetty, Aaron M. Patent number: 5938441Abstract: Air driven dental handpiece motors include a tubular housing and a rotor rotatably supported within the housing. One motor is geared down by the provision of a plurality of idler gears rotatably supported on a hub which rotates between a sun gear on the output end of the rotor and a ring gear fixed within the housing. A drive shaft connects an exposed drive gear with the hub. A bearing is provided between the drive shaft and the inner bore of skirt extending from the ring gear to reduce a number of tolerances built up between the drive shaft and the bearing. The motor further includes a valve member rotatable through about 140.degree. of arc to vary maximum motor speed and motor rotation direction. The valve member abuts a valve plate having a circular air inlet opening and a semicircular air outlet or exhaust opening. The valve member has an air supply opening which is an elongated arcuate slot having radiused circumferential ends.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1998Date of Patent: August 17, 1999Assignee: Den-Tal-Ez, Inc.Inventor: Tod H. Brenner
