Patent number: 8479982Abstract: A banking system operates to provide vault access responsive to authorizing data read from data bearing records. The system selectively permits authorized individuals to access safety deposit boxes located in an interior area of the vault. An individuals's personal mobile device can wirelessly communicate user identifying data to a data reader of the system. A system data store includes data corresponding to authorized users of the vault. A system computer operates to cause a vault gate lock to electronically change from a locked condition to an unlocked condition in response to the data reader wirelessly receiving from the personal mobile device, user identifying data associated in the system data store with an authorized user of the vault.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2012Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: Diebold, IncorporatedInventors: Neil Gromley, Todd Christian, James Pellegrene, Dustin Cairns, Joseph Gagliano, Gary Baker

Patent number: 7314339Abstract: A pneumatic carrier transport system includes a user terminal. A piston of a rodless cylinder can be used to telescopically move a blocking cylinder. The blocking cylinder is vertically displaced to an open position to permit manual access to a carrier received at the terminal. With the blocking cylinder at the open position, a carrier can also be manually placed into the terminal. The blocking cylinder is formed of transparent material to allow a user to view a carrier received at the terminal while the blocking cylinder is in a closed position. The terminal includes control mechanisms on opposite sides to enable two users to operate and access the carrier at the user terminal.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2006Date of Patent: January 1, 2008Assignee: Diebold, IncorporatedInventors: Todd Christian, Neil Gromley, Gary Baker, Daniel S. McIntyre, Donald S. Nelson, Jr., Edward J. Ujhazy, Jr.

Patent number: 6817812Abstract: A pneumatic transfer system (10) includes a service provider station (12) and a customer station (14). A carrier is movable through a transfer conduit (26) between the stations responsive to differential pressure. The transfer conduit (26) comprises tubing (40, 42) fastened together by a clamp apparatus (70). The clamp apparatus includes a band portion (72), a retainer portion (74), and an adjusting device (76). The band portion is able to be tightened by use of the adjusting device. The retainer portion includes tapered walls (92). The clamp apparatus is able to be initially positioned so that portions of tube flanges (44, 46) are disposed within the retainer portion. A resilient seal (100) may also be used. Tightening of the clamp results in the tube flanges being guided toward both longitudinally abutting contact and circumferential alignment. The clamp permits the guiding, aligning, sealing, and retaining of pneumatic tube flanges.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2003Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Diebold, IncorporatedInventor: Todd Christian

Patent number: 6385368Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include an optical system apparatus and method for modulating the strength of a grating such as a long period grating (LPG) within optical systems and devices by varying the light transmission and loss characteristics of the cladding mode, rather than varying the effective refractive index of the fiber layers. According to embodiments of the invention, the use of a light-scattering or light absorptive material in the cladding of the optical fiber or other optical energy transmission medium causes the cladding to switch between a first state that effectively allows coherent coupling of cladding modes and a second state that effectively prevents coherent coupling of cladding modes.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1999Date of Patent: May 7, 2002Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Karl R. Amundson, Todd Christian Haber, Jefferson Lynn Wagener, Robert Scott Windeler
