  • Publication number: 20220032860
Abstract: A power system for a digital license plate includes a sensor, storage memory, and a battery status monitor operable only during operation of the digital license plate. The battery status monitor includes an analog to digital converter (ADC) connected to a battery to provide status data to a processor in the digital license plate, with status data being stored in the storage memory. A determination of battery lifetime being made at least in part using the status data and input from the sensor. In one embodiment status data can include external temperature.

  • Patent number: 11142141
Abstract: A digital license plate comprising includes a display system capable of showing a first image and a power supply rail connected to the display system. A display controller is provided with a data connection to the display system and arranged to measure at least one of power consumption and impedance of the power supply rail. The display controller is further configured to prevent sending a second image to the display system if display failure is indicated by measured power consumption or impedance as being below a defined threshold.

  • Patent number: 11095752
Abstract: Multiple sensors are used to determine proximity of a user with respect to one or more media devices. Different types of sensors may determine different types of information regarding user proximity, such as presence or absence, proximity, distance, orientation, movement, identity, or a number of users that are detected. The information, sensor types, and times at which the information is acquired are used to generate data that associates specific devices, sensor types, information regarding user proximity, and the times at which the information is acquired. Instructions may be provided to various devices to cause performance of actions based on the generated data.

  • Patent number: 10589699
Abstract: A digital license plate system having various power and communication modes to improve performance and increase expected battery life is disclosed. In one embodiment, a response to a sensor triggered plate event requires determination of whether a vehicle is running, parked or in-motion. This determination involves waking the processor, establishing wireless connectivity, and determining if the vehicle is in motion based on local sensor data.

  • Patent number: 10506073
Abstract: Described are techniques for determining proximity data indicative of the presence, absence, location, position, or orientation of one or more users relative to one or more devices. Based on the proximity data, a corresponding function may be determined, such as initiating or receiving of a communication with another device, ceasing an existing communication, performing a maintenance function, or entering a lower power state.

  • Patent number: 9769283
Abstract: Described are techniques for modifying the distribution or behavior of content based on the presence or absence of a particular user or a count of users relative to a media device. Based on user proximity data associated with one or multiple users, a corresponding proximity instruction may be determined. The proximity instruction may be configured to cause one or more media devices to request, present, or modify presentation of content.

  • Patent number: 9224290
Abstract: Data indicative of user proximity to one or more devices is provided to a server. Based on the proximity data, the server may modify content distribution to, or the behavior of, the one or more devices. In one implementation, determination that no user is proximate to the device may result in pausing or stopping streaming of content to the server.
