  • Patent number: 11928313
Abstract: Systems and methods for interaction of satellite and Internet protocol features in content delivery systems are presented. Using such systems and methods, the delivery of some content to the same product by Satellite delivery, other content by IP delivery, and still other content by both Satellite and IP delivery can enhance the utility of both the content and the product for an end user and can further optimize the costs and quality of service associated with delivering the content.

  • Patent number: 8594936
Abstract: Liquid precipitation and snow precipitation measurements having a first resolution and spanning a first time period are aggregated with data from a computer generated model of current liquid precipitation and snowfall estimates having a second resolution and spanning a second time period to form near up-to-date estimates of liquid precipitation and snowfall over a determined time period. The measurements are received from various weather history data severs over a network. The data is processed into a gridded data set for a determined geographical region. The current conditions estimates are received over a network from a different sever. The processor then aggregates the processed liquid and snow precipitation estimates with the current precipitation estimates corresponding to the period from the most recent precipitation and snowfall data until present.

  • Publication number: 20100073568
Abstract: The optical performance is enhanced of display systems that use field sequential color and pulse width modulation to generate color and color gray scale values. Such enhancement may be achieved by various data encoding methods disclosed herein that may include temporal redistribution of bit values to mitigate color motional artifacts associated with field sequential color-based display systems, selective combination of intensity modulation, pulse width modulation, and/or the noncontiguous sequencing of primary colors. There is further an intelligent real-time dynamic manipulation of gray scale values in portions of an image that are computationally determined to be images of objects moving against a global background, so as to temporally front load or concentrate the bits comprising such moving objects and thereby further mitigate said motional artifacts using both actual and virtual aggregate pulse truncation across all primary colors being modulated.

  • Publication number: 20060263829
Abstract: A flow cytometry system (1) for sorting haploid cells, specifically irradiatable sperm cells, with an intermittingly punctuated radiation emitter (56). Embodiments include a beam manipulator (21) and even split radiation beams directed to multiple nozzles (5). Differentiation of sperm characteristics with increased resolution may efficiently allow differentiated sperm cells to be separated higher speeds and even into subpopulations having higher purity.

  • Patent number: 6449350
Abstract: A process and system is disclosed for determining automatically and dynamically the correct time segment during which a switch or components of a switch receive peak traffic from a communications network. The process collects traffic data regarding the usage of a selected switch or selected switch components. The traffic data is collected over a selected journalling period (e.g., 30 days), which is periodically updated with new traffic data to maintain a journal of the most recent 30 days of collected traffic data. Collected traffic data, is filtered to remove aberrant or corrupting data. An average peak usage segment for all of the segments of the journalling period is selected from the remaining filtered traffic data. By regularly adding new data to and removing old data from the journal, the resulting moving window will reflect recent changes in peak usage. Regularly (e.g.

  • Patent number: 6088635
Abstract: A method and monitoring unit for recording the status of a railroad vehicle prior to a potential accident. In a monitoring unit mounted in or on a railroad vehicle, such as a locomotive, a video camera is provided to continuously view a scene that the railroad vehicle approaches. The monitoring unit continuously monitors the status of an emergency brake of the railroad vehicle and the status of a horn of the railroad vehicle. Video signals from the video camera are continuously stored. A control unit in the monitoring unit detects the application of both the emergency brake and blast of the horn within a predetermined time window. Video signals from the video camera are captured for a predetermined period of time after detecting that the application of the emergency brake and horn blast within the predetermined time window.

  • Patent number: 5928777
Abstract: A high pressure laminate is made of several layers of paper, including from bottom to top core sheets, a decor sheet and an overlay sheet. The core sheets are either composed of cellulose fibers or composed of 30 to 90 weight percent cellulose acetate fibers and 70 to 10 weight percent cellulose fibers. The core sheets are respectively coated with either a lamination polymer or a plasticizer. The decor sheet is composed of a mixture and a conventional amount of paper making dye. The mixture comprises 30 to about 90 weight percent cellulose acetate fibers, 10 to 70 weight percent cellulose fibers and 0 to 20 weight percent fillers. The decor sheet is coated with a plasticizer. The overlay sheet is composed of cellulose fibers and is coated with a lamination polymer. Upon application of heat and pressure to the several layers a laminate is formed having thermoplastic properties, improved postformability and a significant reduction in the release of volatile organics during formation.

  • Patent number: 5922451
Abstract: A decorative paper sheet for use in preparing a decorative laminate is made up of a matrix containing from about 15 to about 60 weight percent of cellulose and from about 40 to about 85 weight percent of cellulose acetate. The sheet also contains a plasticizer for the cellulose acetate in an amount ranging from about 40 to about 90 weight percent based on the weight of the cellulose acetate in said matrix. A filler material may be present in the sheet in an amount ranging from about 1 to about 18 weight percent based on the weight of the matrix. A low pressure laminate may be made from sheet and a structural substrate therefor by application of heat and pressure. The plasticized cellulose acetate fuses and resolidifies to bond the sheet to the structural substrate.
