Publication number: 20240148421Abstract: An example apparatus is provided for placing a nail and a first anchor within a first bone, such as the fibula. The first anchor may include a proximal end and a distal end and may be configured for insertion into a first hole in the first bone, wherein the proximal end may be configured to interface with the nail.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 9, 2022Publication date: May 9, 2024Applicant: DePuy Synthes Products, Inc.Inventor: Todd J. Publication number: 20240100661Abstract: A torque wrench includes an elongated body, a head, and a cantilever beam. The body extends longitudinally from a proximal end to a distal end and includes a channel extending therethrough. The distal end includes an opening extending laterally therethrough along a central axis. The head is rotatably received within the opening at the distal end so that the head is rotatable about the axis. The head includes a gear cam defining teeth about a periphery thereof and an engaging portion sized, shaped, and configured to engage a corresponding engaging feature of a fixation device. The beam is housed within the channel such that a distal tip is received in a space between adjacent teeth. The beam bends when a torsional force applied to the head exceeds a predetermined limit so that the cam rotates about the axis and the distal tip slips from the space between the teeth into an adjacent space.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2022Publication date: March 28, 2024Inventor: Todd J. Publication number: 20230390068Abstract: An example apparatus is provided for placing a first anchor in a first bone, and a locking assembly in a second bone, the first anchor and locking assembly being connected by a flexible segment that provides substantial tensile stabilization but offers little or no resistance to bending, rotation, or shear motion of the first anchor and locking assembly with respect to each other. The first anchor can include a proximal end and a distal end configured for insertion into a first hole in the first bone. The locking assembly can include a proximal end and a distal end configured for insertion into a second hole in the second bone. The flexible segment can be configured to adjust a distance between the first and second bones, while the locking assembly releasably engages the flexible segment to fix the distance between the first and second bones.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2022Publication date: December 7, 2023Applicant: DePuy Synthes Products, Inc.Inventors: Todd J. KENT, Edward KUREK

Publication number: 20230285116Abstract: A drill guide assembly configured to engage a drill bit, including: a drill guide including: a drill guide tube including a ring and a flared end at a proximal end of the drill guide tube; a drill guide body with a central opening configured to receive the drill guide tube and a tube stop configured to engage the flared end; and a spring configured to engage the ring and distal end of the drill guide body; and a drill guide sleeve with a central opening configured to receive the drill guide including a ring stop configured to engage the ring and a sleeve distal end configured to engage a plate hole on a bone plate, wherein the spring is configured to bias the drill guide tube in a distal direction so that a distal end of the drill guide tube extends from the sleeve distal end.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 3, 2022Publication date: September 14, 2023Inventors: Michael McGurk, Philip Watt, Todd J. Kent, Jason Long, William Woodburn, John V. Hunt, Junior Julien, Joshua McManus

Patent number: 11627991Abstract: A bone fixation clamp includes a first clamp assembly, a second clamp assembly, an inner locking member, and an outer locking assembly. The first and second clamp assemblies are transitionable between open and closed configurations. The inner locking member is transitionable between a locked position and an unlocked position. In the locked position the inner locking member engages the first clamp assembly substantially preventing the first clamp assembly from transitioning from the closed configuration to the open configuration. The outer locking assembly is transitionable between a locked position and an unlocked position. In the locked position the outer locking assembly engages the first clamp assembly and the second clamp assembly substantially preventing both the first clamp assembly from transitioning from the closed configuration to the open configuration and the second clamp assembly from transitioning from the closed configuration to the open configuration.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2019Date of Patent: April 18, 2023Assignee: DEPUY SYNTHES PRODUCTS, INC.Inventor: Todd J. Kent

Patent number: 10278700Abstract: A wound closure device for closing a surgical wound includes at least one compressive clip for applying pressure to a patient's tissue. The clip includes a first clamping arm, a second clamping arm, and a flexible pin maintained between the first and second clamping arms in a press-fit relationship. Each of the first and second clamping arms has a proximal first end, an opposing distal second end and a sidewall extending therebetween. The clip has a first position in which the proximal first ends of the first and second clamping arms partially engage or do not engage each other and a second position in which the proximal first ends of the first and second clamping arms pivotally engage each other. In the second position of the clip, a compressive force generated at the proximal first ends is transferred through the first and second clamping arms to the distal second ends.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2015Date of Patent: May 7, 2019Assignee: ZSX Medical, LLCInventors: Dan Mazzucco, Robert S. Cargill, II, Todd J. Kent, David George Reed, Binh Bao Vu, Craig Hidalgo

Patent number: 9700324Abstract: A surgical clip applicator includes a base housing having a body portion, a movable trigger, a cannula, and a clip application mechanism extending within and through at least a portion of a length of the cannula. The clip application mechanism includes a movable first linkage and a jaw rotatable about a pivot mount. A first actuation of the trigger causes the first linkage to be moved in a linear direction with respect to the body portion and the cannula and the jaw to be rotated in a first direction about the pivot mount, for placing the clip in an open position on the patient's tissue. A second actuation of the trigger causes the jaw to be rotated in second direction about the pivot mount, the second direction being opposite to the first direction, placing the clip in a closed position on the patient's tissue.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2015Date of Patent: July 11, 2017Assignee: ZSX Medical, LLCInventors: Dan Mazzucco, Robert S. Cargill, II, Todd J. Kent, David George Reed, Binh Bao Vu, Eric Sugalski, David Schoon, Jesse Butch, Ryan Meers, Julian Trowbridge
