  • Patent number: 7162464
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for performing data mining applications in a relational database management system (114). Scalable Data Mining Functions (202) are performed directly against a relational database (116) by executing queries dynamically generated by an application programming interface (204) according to requested parameters.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 1, 1999
Date of Patent: January 9, 2007
    Assignee: NCR Corporation
Inventors: Timothy Edward Miller, Brian Don Tate, Miriam H. Herman, Todd Michael Brye, Anthony Lowell Rollins
  • Patent number: 6718322
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for performing data mining applications in a relational database management system. At least one analytic algorithm for rule induction is performed by a computer, wherein the analytic algorithm for rule induction includes SQL statements performed by the relational database management system directly against the relational database and programmatic iteration. The analytic algorithm for rule induction solves inference problems that are predictive in nature and require a training phase where the programmatic iteration learns various rules based upon data extracted from the relational database by the SQL statements performed by relational database management system. Thereafter, the analytic algorithm for rule induction creates at least one analytic model within the analytic logical data model from data residing in the relational database.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 6, 2004
    Assignee: NCR Corporation
    Inventor: Todd Michael Brye
  • Patent number: 6687695
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for performing data mining applications in a relational database management system. At least one analytic algorithm (110) is performed by a computer directly against a relational database (116), wherein the analytic algorithm includes SQL statements performed by the relational database management system (114) and optional programmatic iteration, and the analytic algorithm creates at least one analytic model within an analytic logical data model from data residing in the relational database.

  • Patent number: 6421665
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for performing data mining applications in a relational database management system executed by a massively parallel processing (MPP) computer system. An analytic application programming interface (API), executed by the computer, generates a data reduction function performed directly within the relational database management system. The data reduction function builds at least one matrix within the relational database management system from data stored in the relational database.
