  • Patent number: 11886384
Abstract: The techniques disclosed herein enable systems to centralize access to various digital items irrespective of the location of those digital items. To achieve this, items that are stored at their original location, e.g., within a cloud storage platform, can be selected by a user for storage at a centralized location such as a favorites section. These items are selected using an interface control which can be an operating system component of an item keeping system that is accessible in any context or application. The item keeping system can generate an item alias for selected items which is then stored in the centralized location. In addition, item aliases can be moved to various destinations by the user to enable customized item storage for items of varying types, origin, and location. In addition, functionality of the interface control can be modified to suite selected items.

  • Publication number: 20040039815
Abstract: A computer network comprising a plurality of computing entities including a dynamic provisioning system that redeploys computer systems between resource groups. The determination as to when this transition between resource groups should occur is based on performance statistics gathered from the network. The transition from one group to the other includes, disabling the computer from a first resource group, reconfiguring the computer according to a configuration database, and redeploying the reconfigured machine to a second resource group. The second resource group can be an over utilized resource group that needs extra compute resources or it can be an idle resource group.

  • Patent number: 6462745
Abstract: A computer system having a highly parallel system architecture with multiple central processing units, multiple core logic chipsets and pooled system memory is provided with one or more AGP ports capable of connection to AGP devices. A memory manager is provided within the operating system for allocating pooled memory resources without regard to the location of that memory. A method is presented for dynamically allocating memory for the AGP device that is located on the same core logic chipset to which the AGP device is connected. By allocating local memory instead of allocating memory on remote core logic units, the AGP device can access the needed memory quickly without memory transmissions along the host bus, thereby increasing overall performance of the computer system.
