  • Patent number: 7252072
Abstract: A fueling system for an internal combustion engine. The system has a voltage booster and a fuel injector. The voltage booster is operatively coupled to the injector to selectively drive the injector. A method includes determining compliance of a booster voltage with a threshold. The method further includes diagnosing fuel system error based upon the determining compliance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 10, 2004
Date of Patent: August 7, 2007
    Assignee: Cummins Inc.
Inventors: Todd Slater, John E. Rogers, Michael D. Zieles
  • Patent number: 7127892
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention includes an internal combustion engine with a turbocharger. The turbocharger includes a compressor with an outlet coupled to an intake of the engine and a turbine coupled to an exhaust manifold of the engine. A a turbocharger speed estimate is determined from engine speed and a ratio between inlet and boost pressure for the compressor. The turbocharger speed estimate is further adjusted as a function of compressor boost pressure variation with time.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 13, 2004
Date of Patent: October 31, 2006
    Assignee: Cummins, Inc.
Inventors: Mark D. Akins, Dennis King, Todd Slater, Bryan Milburn, Greg Pataky
