Publication number: 20080284975Abstract: A temple adjustment mechanism includes a male side member joined to one side of a lens frame, and a female side member relatively movable to and from the male side member. A temple is hingedly connected to the female side member. The male and female side members are relatively movable between a retracted position and an extended position. A spring is connected between the male and female side members to hold the two side members in their retracted position. A linkage extends between the male and female side members and is manually operable to move the two side members to their extended position from their retracted position. When the male and female side members are moved to their extended position, the female side member is longitudinally spaced from the male side member so that the overall length of the temple is increased.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 2, 2008Publication date: November 20, 2008Applicant: Washin Optical Co., Ltd.Inventors: Tohru Negishi, Masatoshi Saitoh

Patent number: 7422323Abstract: A hinge system for eyewear includes a pivotable hinge element for connecting a temple to a lug on each end of a lens frame. The pivotable hinge element has one end pivotably connected to the lug and the other end arranged to allow the temple to be pivotably moved between a wearing position and a folded position. First and second magnets are provided in the lug and the pivotable hinge element, respectively. The first and second magnets have respective confronting surfaces oriented to face against each other when the temple is in its wearing position. The confronting surfaces of the first and second magnets have an identical polarity, so that the first and second magnets are operatively associated to urge the temple inwardly toward its folded position when the temple is moved to its wearing position.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2007Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Washin Optical Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masatoshi Saitoh, Tohru Negishi

Patent number: 4547048Abstract: A frame for multifocal spectacles includes a side piece attached to each of a pair of lens rims through a hinge mechanism which permits downward rotation of the side piece relative to the rim through a prescribed angle. A nosepad is mounted on each of the lens rims through a level adjusting mechanism by which the nosepad is vertically moved causing the level of the lens rims to be altered in correspondence to the change of inclination of the side piece.By means of the hinge mechanism, through a simple operation, each lens segment of the multifocal lens can be used at the optimum angle with respect to the line of vision, and by means of the level adjusting mechanism for moving the nosepad vertically, each lens segment is moved vertically to the level most suitable relative to the line of vision. At the same time neatness of appearance and decrease of eye fatigue result, whichever pair of lens segments is used.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 1984Date of Patent: October 15, 1985Inventor: Tohru Negishi
