  • Publication number: 20240107246
Abstract: Aspects of the subject technology provide improved techniques for determining a state of an audio device, including reduced power techniques for determining if an earbud is currently being worn in a user's ear or not. In aspects, a potential state change in an audio device may be detected, and in response measurement of the state of the device may be initiated, such as by emitting an audio signal and then determining the state of the audio device based on a sensed version of the emitted audio signal.

  • Patent number: 9576724
Abstract: An air core power reactor (10) having a noise mitigating sound shield (40). In one embodiment the sound shield includes a plurality of sound absorbing panels (42p) configured for positioning about an outermost reactor layer (12?) so that the panels reduce radiation of acoustic energy when the reactor coil layers carry current. One or more flexible members (48) are attached along the first side of each sound absorbing panel for contact with the outermost reactor layer. Sound barrier material (44) is positioned along the second side of each panel. When the flexible members are attached to a panel and the panel is installed about the outermost first layer of the reactor, the flexible members are positioned against the outermost first layer and the flexible members provide a gap between the first side of the panel and the outermost first layer of the reactor.

  • Patent number: 9406433
Abstract: An air core reactor (47) including a plurality of concentric conductor winding packages (44, 46) wherein a force (F+) generated by the interaction of current (+) flowing through one package and a magnetic field (42) generated by the reactor is out of phase (F?) with a force generated in another package, thereby effectively mitigating audible sound generated by power operation of the reactor. In one embodiment (FIG. 3), the out of phase force may be generated when at least one winding (38c, 37d) of one package (38) is configured to conduct a current (?) that is at least 10 degrees out of phase with a current (+) conducted by another package (40) or other windings (38a, 38b) of the reactor (36).

  • Publication number: 20060092855
Abstract: When a node (N) enters a new environment, and periodically thereafter, it initiates a network-learning protocol, wherein the node broadcasts a query at a particular power setting, and receives responses from each of the other nodes (A-F) that received the query. The node then adjusts its power setting, resends the query, and again receives responses to the query. This process is repeated until the node has sent the query throughout a set of power settings. During this process, the node notes which other nodes respond to the query at each power setting the transition point of the power setting at which each node begins to respond defines the electronic-distance, or range, of each node from the querying node. The querying node subsequently uses the range of each node to determine the power setting that it uses to communicate with each node.

  • Publication number: 20060056614
Abstract: Messaging services (160) are provided in conjunction with teleconferencing services (150). After assigning a dial-in number to a scheduled teleconference, invitees (111) can use this dial-in number to record messages (260) prior to, or during, the scheduled teleconference. When the teleconference is established (310), a participant (110) in the teleconference, typically the originator of the teleconference, is provided the option (330) of playing-back any or all of the recorded messages, either privately (340), or as part of the teleconference (350). Optionally, messages can be addressed to one or more specific participants (110, 111), and these participants control the playback of the message. If the message is received during the teleconference, the addressed participant is discretely notified (320), and can subsequently playback the message immediately, or at a more convenient time.

  • Publication number: 20040068756
Abstract: In a home network environment, a control device is provided for controlling the communication flow between devices over the network. The control device generates and transmits a first control command in response to a first user input. The first control command is received by a first device on the network and upon reception of the first control command, the first device broadcasts, to a plurality of devices over a network comprising at least the first device and a second device, information data representative of a pending content transfer over the network from the first device. Thereafter, the control device generates and transmits a second control command in response to a subsequent second user input. The second control command is received by the second device and in response to the second control command contacts the first device and enables the initiation of the content transfer from the first device to the second device.

  • Publication number: 20030204748
Abstract: A method and system identifies the particular security protocol required to access each network that a user of a portable device encounters. If a security protocol is required for a network, and the user has the appropriate security key, the system is further configured to identify that key. The system is configured to determine whether a network within range of the device requires encryption, and if so, at what level. If encryption is required, the system accesses a network profile to determine whether the user possesses a key for use in the particular network. The system displays a network identifier, the level of encryption required, and, if available, an identification of the appropriate security key for the identified network. Optionally, the system can be configured to display only those networks that the user can actually access: non-secure networks and secure networks for which an appropriate key is available.

  • Publication number: 20030158609
Abstract: A power management system for a portable device uses a variety of techniques for dynamically controlling the allocation of power among components of the portable device. A power-priority scheme progressively disables, or reduces the power to, individual components of the device, such that lesser important functions are disabled sooner, to provide a longer power duration to more important functions, such as data-retention functions. A performance-dependent scheme continuously adjusts the power to select components to maintain a minimum performance level, thereby avoiding power consumption for more-than-necessary performance. A user of the device is provided options for effecting the desired power-prioritization, and levels of performance.
