Patent number: 10801383Abstract: A system includes an engine having multiple cylinders and an exhaust manifold. A fuel delivery device and an igniter are disposed in the exhaust manifold. The fuel delivery device injects a fuel into the exhaust manifold. The system also includes an exhaust aftertreatment setup in fluid communication with the exhaust manifold, and a controller in communication with the multiple cylinders, the fuel delivery device and the igniter. The controller is configured to deactivate at least one cylinder to provide air to the exhaust manifold, and control the fuel delivery device to provide the fuel within the exhaust manifold such that the fuel and the air from the at least one deactivated cylinder forms a mixture within the exhaust manifold. The controller is configured to control the igniter to ignite the mixture to generate combustion products within the exhaust manifold for heating the exhaust aftertreatment setup.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2019Date of Patent: October 13, 2020Assignee: Tenneco Automotive Operating Company, Inc.Inventors: Charles Rackmil, Matthew Muhleck, Tom Harris, Timothy Gardner, David L Anderson, Pankaj Vazirani, Adam Kotrba

Patent number: 8518354Abstract: A mixture of urea, water and ammonium carbamate is formulated for use in the catalytic reduction of oxides of nitrogen in diesel exhaust. The mixtures may be formulated to optimize the amount of reductant in the mixture and the freezing point of the formulation. These formulations are especially useful in combination with Selective Catalytic Reduction systems and are well suited for use on heavy-duty trucks and heavy duty equipment used off-road. Some of these formations include between about 15.0 wt. % to about 40.0 wt. % urea; between about 15.0 wt. % to about 40.0 wt. % ammonium carbamate; and between about 40.0 wt. % to about 60.0 wt. % water. The formulation may be monitored for ammonia content and/or freezing point and the composition of the formulation may be adjusted to optimize the freezing point and ammonia content.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2011Date of Patent: August 27, 2013Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventors: Ponnayan Ayyappan, Tom Harris, Danan Dou

Patent number: 8499495Abstract: A drive mechanism for a door operator comprises a drive member and a driven member. The drive member is adapted to be operably connected between a motor assembly for rotating the drive member and a door closer assembly rotating with the driven member. The drive member and the driven member both include a protrusion. The driven member protrusion moves in the free space defined by driving surfaces of the drive member protrusion. Rotation of the drive member from a first angular orientation to a second angular orientation causes rotation of the driven member for powered opening of the door. The driven member protrusion moves in the free space without engaging the protrusion surfaces when the door is opened manually and allowed to close.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2011Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: Yale Security Inc.Inventors: Blue Houser, Sidney J. Lampley, Robert Tadlock, Tom Harris, John Presley, Jeff Schoener, Lana Kirkpatrick
