Publication number: 20160290314Abstract: A wind turbine with two or more wind turbine blades having at least one continuous profile extending along the length of the blade. The continuous profile may be formed by a plurality of first and second projecting elements which extend in a chord-wise direction. The ratio between the height and length of the first and second element is at least 1:1. The height of the projecting elements may be tapered off from the trailing edge towards the leading edge and/or from the blade root towards the tip end. This allows the increase in strain forces generated in the wind turbine blade to be reduced by deforming the first and second elements in an edgewise direction. This also allows for a continuous reduction of the strain forces and a reduced thickness of the first and second elements which in turn saves material.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 8, 2014Publication date: October 6, 2016Applicant: Envision Energy (Denmark) ApSInventor: Tommy SØRENSEN

Battery powered electronic device comprising a movable part and adapted to be set into shipping mode
Patent number: 8983552Abstract: A battery powered electronic device (1) comprising a housing (2) and a movable part (3) extending from the housing (2). The movable part (3) is movably attached to the housing (2), such that it can be moved between a compact position and an extended position. The electronic device comprises a switch, which is adapted to sense, whether the movable part (3) is in the compact position or not, and the switch is utilized to switch the electronic device (1) On, when the movable part (3) is in the extended position, and Off, when the movable part (3) is in the compact position. The electronics of the device (1) is adapted to be set to off or into a low-power shipping mode, all though the movable part (3) is in the extended position.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2012Date of Patent: March 17, 2015Assignee: GN Netcom A/SInventors: Peter Birk Andersen, Michael Hoby Andersen, Tommy Sorensen, Jes Lundberg, Carsten Jurs -
Patent number: 8545182Abstract: This invention relates to a wind turbine blade with at least two connection members such as bushings and/or threaded bars in the root of the blade for attaching the blade to a hub. The connection members are placed along the blade surface and at least some of the connection members are non-parallel and hence oriented in different directions. Hereby is obtained that the root section of the blade can be shortened and the maximum chord of the wind turbine blade can be moved closer to the hub, whereby the part of the blade exploiting the wind is increased and the power output similarly increased. The present invention further relates to a pitch bearing and a hub comprising a bearing ring with two or more holes for positioning fastening members for attaching a wind turbine blade to the bearing. Here, correspondingly, at least two of the holes are oriented in different angles so that the fastening members positioned in the holes are non-parallel and extend in different directions.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2009Date of Patent: October 1, 2013Assignee: LM Glasfiber A/SInventor: Tommy Sørensen

Patent number: 8267651Abstract: The present invention relates to a blade for a wind power plant with an assembly face for mounting in a circular pitch bearing, whose pitch axis is angled relative to the longitudinal axis of the blade, and wherein the blade comprises a root part with an approximately elliptic cross-section, in which root part the assembly face is arranged. The invention further relates to a wind power plant in general having a pitch-adjustable blade mounted in a pitch bearing such that the distance between the outermost part of the blade and the tower is increased when the leading edge of the blade is pitched up in the wind. This is accomplished in that the longitudinal axis of the blade is angled in a particular way compared to its pitch axis.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2007Date of Patent: September 18, 2012Assignee: LM Glasfiber A/SInventor: Tommy Sørensen

Patent number: 8109733Abstract: A method of adjusting the speed of blades rotating in a rotor plane on a wind turbine, wherein the angle between at least two blades in the rotor plane is changed, whereby the tip speed of each individual blade can be optimised relative to the current speed of the wind experienced by the blade. Hereby it is possible to take into consideration the variation of the wind as a function of the height above ground level, and the yield of the wind turbine can be increased. The angular displacement of each blade can be changed individually independently of the remainder of the blades and cyclically. The method also comprises that each blade is accelerated on its way upwards in the rotation cycle and decelerated on its way down. Further details are provided about a system for controlling blades in a wind turbine comprising one or more wind speed meters, position meters, and/or acceleration meters, based on which parameters control of the angular displacement of each blade in the rotor plane is performed.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2006Date of Patent: February 7, 2012Assignee: LM Glasfiber A/SInventor: Tommy Sorensen

Patent number: 7994652Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of increasing the output of a wind turbine, wherein one or more flow surfaces are placed at a wind turbine. At lower wind speeds, the flow surfaces are set to guide the wind up towards and/or out from the rotor of the wind turbine and hence use the venturi effect in the rotor to advantage. At higher wind speeds, the flow surfaces are completely or partially taken out of the flow of the wind. Moreover, the flow surfaces can be adjusted around the wind turbine based on measurements of the speed of the wind and direction of the wind and/or the power signal of the wind turbine. The invention further relates to a system comprising one or more flow surfaces and means for adjusting same to the effect that the output of a wind turbine can be maximized by using the venturi effect to advantage as described above.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2006Date of Patent: August 9, 2011Assignee: LM Glasfiber A/SInventors: Peter Grabau, Tommy Sorensen

Publication number: 20100068058Abstract: The present invention relates to a blade (202) for a wind power plant (201) comprising a controllable actuator and at least one joint (206) transversally of the longitudinal direction of the blade, about which joint the outermost part (205) of the turning of the blade at an angle out of the original face of rotation of the blade can be controlled by the actuator. Hereby the rotor area can he controlled continuously during operation, and the distance between the blade tip and the tower can be increased/reduced. The turning and the bracing of the joint is controlled by means of wire pulls and/or actuators, such as eg electric, pneumatic or hydraulic pistons. The invention also relates to a method of improving the operation of a wind power plant in operation, using the same mechanism.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 16, 2006Publication date: March 18, 2010Applicant: LM GLASFIBER A/SInventor: Tommy Sørensen
