  • Patent number: 8104062
Abstract: The invention provides an information providing apparatus and method by which the amount of data to be transmitted when data of a program table composed of characters and images or the like are to be transmitted is reduced and it is made possible to cope with a change in contents of data rapidly. Data of an electronic program guide to be provided is hierarchized into data (A1 data) which may possibly be changed such as the broadcasting date, the start time and the end time, data (A2 data) which are not changed at all such as a program name, and data (A3 data) composed of still pictures, moving pictures, voice and so forth which have comparatively large data amounts, and for each medium, data of a hierarchy suitable for the medium is provided. Each A3 data is referred to by one or a plurality of A2 data, and each A2 data is referred to by one or a plurality of A1 data.

  • Patent number: 7801413
Abstract: An information processing device previously includes music options for use as a BGM, and these music options are each correlated to the details of an effect to represent the atmosphere matching the BGM. After a user selects a specific photo album storing still images for playback, and then a BGM, a playlist is created to define the order for playing back the still images stored in the photo album with the effect corresponding to the BGM. The present invention is applicable to equipment such as personal computers capable of handling still images, and therewith, effect-applied still images can be displayed easily and swiftly in a sequential manner.

  • Patent number: 7584492
Abstract: A program-selecting apparatus well applied to a broadcast receiving set sets automatic picture-recording by setting program selection conditions comprising a genre, a keyword, and a time zone. A recording medium built in a recording medium unit has a storage region for storing keywords used in this setting. This storage region is comprised of a fixed region in which plural fixed keywords are stored and an alteration region in which plural alterable keywords are stored. A keyword stored in the alteration region is downloaded through a MODEM from a server based on, for example, user's operations. It is possible to set a program selection condition by using a new keyword without providing input means such as a keyboard for inputting keywords to the apparatus, thus making the apparatus inexpensive.

  • Patent number: 7356829
Abstract: A receiving apparatus receives an image signal transmitted from a transmitting end. In the receiving apparatus, the received image signal is output to a display. Electronic program guide information (EPG) added to the received image signal is extracted. The display format of the EPG is altered in accordance with predetermined information. And, the altered EPG is output to the display. A transmitting apparatus transmits an image signal to a receiving end. In the transmitting apparatus, the image signal, EPG, information representing a broadcasting station providing the EPG are generated. The EPG and the information representing the broadcasting station are added to the image signal. And, a signal formed by adding the EPG and the information representing the broadcasting station to the image signal is transmitted to the receiving end.

  • Patent number: 6993781
Abstract: Radio waves transmitted from the antenna of a broadcasting station are received by the antenna of a television receiver. The television receiver extracts an EPG from the received radio waves and transmits it to a remote controller via an infrared transmission/reception section. The remote controller displays the received EPG on a LCD and is then rendered in a state of waiting for selection of a program. If some program is selected and then a reserve button is manipulated, the remote controller transmits a control command for a recording reservation to a video tape recorder. The video tape recorder receives the control command with an infrared transmission/reception section, whereby the recording reservation of the designated program is set.
