  • Patent number: 4448168
Abstract: A fuel injector of a Diesel engine is supplied with a boosted supply of fuel from a booster and operated to start and terminate a fuel injection by a hydraulically controlled nozzle needle actuator. A valving unit is controlled to selectively communicate compressed operating fluid to the booster so that the boosted supply of fuel reaches the fuel injector. The valving unit comprises a pair of poppet type valves each of which is operated by a solenoid operated pilot valve, thereby attaining high speed operation due to a high frequency of switching actions and accommodating a large flow rate of fluid. A manually or automatically adjustable stop is associated with each of the poppet type valves to control the flow rate of fluid through the valve to the booster, which dictates the pressure of fuel injection from the injector.

  • Patent number: 4439116
Abstract: In a fuel injection pump having a dual plunger composed of a first plunger for adjusting the timing of the beginning of fuel injection and a second plunger for adjusting the timing of the end of fuel injection, the first and second plungers are operatively connected with a governor in such a way that only the first adjusting member is operated in accordance with the governor and the second plunger is displaced in accordance with the displacement of the first plunger, whereby the second plunger is displaced by the distance necessary for compensating for the change in the amount of fuel injection caused by the displacement.FUEL INJECTION PUMP The present invention relates to a fuel injection pump for an internal combustion engine in which the timing of the beginning of fuel injection can be set independently of the setting of the timing of the end of fuel injection.Recent circumstances such as the increase in the cost of fuel has led to the frequent use of lower quality fuels in marine engines.

  • Patent number: 4438496
Abstract: A feedback control method for electronically controlling the fuel injection for an internal combustion engine, which is characterized by detecting the actual nozzle needle lift and actual injection pressure of a fuel injection valve to arithmetically calculate an actual fuel injection quantity from the detected values of nozzle needle lift and injection pressure by means of electronic computer means, detecting the values of factors indicative of the operating condition of the engine such as engine speed and engine load to arithmetically calculate a required fuel injection quantity from the detected values of the above factors by means of the electronic computer means, and correcting the calculated required injection quantity with reference to the calculated actual injection quantity.

  • Patent number: 4403585
Abstract: In a fuel injection nozzle system having an injection-valve which is able to adjust the opening pressure to any value, there is provided with a device for adjusting the opening pressure of the injection-valve, a setting circuit for setting a target value for the injection-valve opening pressure in response to at least one signal indicative of the condition of engine operation, and a detecting circuit for detecting the actual value of the injection-valve opening pressure set by the device. The output signals from the detecting circuit and the setting circuit are applied to a circuit for computing the difference between the actual value and the target value and the device is operated in accordance with the signal indicative of the difference so that the actual value of the injection opening pressure is set at the target value of the injection-valve opening pressure with high accuracy.

  • Patent number: 4359032
Abstract: An electronic fuel injection control system adapted for combination with a fuel injection valve, which comprises means for regulating the valve opening pressure of the injection nozzle of the fuel injection valve, means for regulating the injection timing of the injection nozzle, means for detecting the operating condition of an engine associated with the fuel injection valve, and means responsive to the output of the detecting means for electronically controlling the valve opening pressure regulating means and the injection timing regulating means. The electronic control means is adapted to control the valve opening pressure regulating means and the injection timing regulating means so as to obtain an injection rate, an injection timing and an injection period appropriate for the operating condition of the engine.
