Abstract: A cylinder head gasket 1 comprises gasket base plates 4 and 5 including: a plurality of combustion chamber holes 7; a water hole 9 formed in a manner adjusted to the position of a cooling liquid path 3b formed in a cylinder block; and full beads 4a and 5a surrounding the combustion chamber holes. The neighboring full beads are formed at locations distant from each other. The water hole is disposed outside an area surrounded by the full beads and the coupling beads. When the neighboring full beads are distant from each other, cooling liquid can be blocked from flowing into an area formed between the full beads.

  • Patent number: 6702297
Abstract: A metal gasket used in an engine with a chain case, using a foam-rubber seal member shaped to withstand in practical use and having excellent long-lasting reliability and excellent durability. A total constitutive plate of the metal gasket is extended along the chain case to form an extended part. This extended part has a chain case hole. The foam-rubber seal member seals a chain case opening and a three-surface joining portion defined by the chain case, a cylinder block and a cylinder head. The foam-rubber seal member is a separate and distinct member and is a sheet-like and loop-like combination of layers of foam rubber and a metal core plate interposed between these foam rubber layers.

  • Patent number: 6457724
Abstract: With the objective of providing a metallic gasket which can realize both sealing performance and cost reduction which can be achieved by the decreased number of constituting plates or the decreased number of materials, the metallic gasket is composed of: a first bead plate which is made of elastic metal and has hot plug beads which are respectively formed opposite hot plugs; and a second bead plate which is made of elastic metal and has folded parts each of which is formed about the periphery of a bore hole and annular bore beads each of which is formed about the periphery of an area including the bore hole and a portion which is opposite to the hot plug.

  • Publication number: 20020050687
Abstract: Occurrence of cracking in a metal plate serving as a constituent plate is prevented by improving heat extraction and cooling characteristics, for instance, in the peripheries of cylinder bores which encounter a high-temperature fluid. To this end, a stopper plate, which has bore openings and either or both surfaces of which are coated with a sealing coating material, is provided with sealing coating material lacking portions formed in the vicinity of the bore openings in one surface thereof. The sealing coating material lacking portions are for speeding up extraction of heat from the peripheries of the bore openings.

  • Patent number: 6336639
Abstract: A metal gasket is disclosed which is used arranged between a cylinder block and a cylinder head. The metal gasket comprises carrier plates having thereon beads, and a stopper plate overlaid on the carrier plates and provided with folded constructions, which are each composed of a folded flange area and its counterpart area confronting each other so as to provide a gap of a preselected interval between them. The gaps exert elasticity on the folded flange areas continuously whenever the gasket is squeezed and loaded due to engine operation whereby the folded constructions may compensate for intolerable clearance that might occur owing to the distortion in fatigue of the cylinder block with respect to the gasket, with resulting in improving sealing performance of the gasket.

  • Patent number: 6164662
Abstract: An engine gasket flattens the surface pressure occurring around holes, prevents the occurrence of impressions in and damage to a cylinder block and a cylinder head, and secures a stable sealing performance. This metal gasket has elastic metal plates and an intermediate metal plate interposed between these elastic metal plates. The elastic metal plates are provided with full beads along the circumferences of the holes so that the ridge portions of the full beads contact the intermediate metal plate. The intermediate plate has, on regions which are between the holes and full beads of the elastic metal plates, half beads extending toward the elastic metal plates. The elastic metal plates are folded back along the circumferences of the holes.
