  • Patent number: 10756930
Abstract: A network system includes a first network through which a frame of a first type is transmitted in accordance with a first communication protocol and includes a second network in which a frame of a second type is transmitted in accordance with a second communication protocol. A gateway device is connected to the first network and the second network. The gateway device sequentially receives frames of the first type from the first network and determines whether to transmit data regarding the received frames of the first type to the second network. The gateway device transmits, to the second network, a frame of the second type including data regarding a plurality of the frames of the first type determined to be transmitted to the second network.

Abstract: A gateway device for a vehicle network system is provided. The vehicle network system includes a first network, a second network, a first electronic control unit connected to the first network, a second electronic control unit connected to the second network, and the gateway device connected to the first network and the second network. The gateway device receives a first frame transmitted to the first network by the first electronic control unit; determines whether or not the first frame is appropriate; generates a second frame when the first frame is not determined to be appropriate; and transmits the second frame to the second network. The second frame includes control information and additional information based on content of the first frame. The control information restricts processing of the additional information included in the second frame by the second electronic control unit.

  • Patent number: 10715600
Abstract: A hub is connected to first and second networks where first-type and second-type frames are transmitted following first and second communication protocols. The hub sequentially receives each of the first-type and second-type frames, and stores data in first and second reception buffers. If the destination of data stored in the first and second reception buffers is the first network, the hub stores the data in a first transmission buffer. If the destination is the second network, the hub stores the data in a second transmission buffer. If the first transmission buffer is a priority transmission buffer, the hub transmits first yet-to-be-transmitted data in the first transmission buffer with priority. If the second transmission buffer is the priority transmission buffer, the hub transmits second yet-to-be-transmitted data in the second transmission buffer with priority.

  • Publication number: 20200220716
Abstract: An update management method is used in an onboard network system having a plurality of electronic control units (ECUs) that performs communication via a network and connects to an external tool. The method includes a master ECU storing a shared key and an expiration date of the shared key. When the master ECU receives an update message, verifying update authority information indicating authority of the external tool, and determining whether or not a transmission of the update message is within a range of an authority of the external tool. The method also includes acquiring external point-in-time information, determining whether or not the external point-in-time information is before the expiration date, and transmitting an alert message prompting an update of the shared key. The ECUs are prioritized according to a designated level of authority, including chassis-related functions, body-related functions, safety/comfort functions, and telematics/infotainment functions.

Abstract: An anomaly detection system is on an in-vehicle network including: a first network connected to first devices that communicate using a first protocol; and a second network connected to second devices that includes a driving assistance controller communicates using a second protocol. The system includes: a communicator receiving, through the first network, first unit data including (i) source information indicating a source first device and (ii) second unit data including a data identifier; a database storing rule; and an anomaly determiner that determines whether the first unit data has anomaly by comparing the source information and the data identifier with the rule. Based on the rule, the first unit data is determined to have anomaly when the source first device is a sensing device and, according to the identifier, the second unit data is to be received by the controller.

  • Patent number: 10693905
Abstract: An invalidity detection electronic control unit connected to a bus used by a plurality of electronic control units (ECUs) to communicate with one another in accordance with controller area network (CAN) protocol includes a receiving unit that receives a frame for which transmission is started and a transmitting unit that transmits an error frame on the bus before a tail end of the frame is transmitted if the frame received by the receiving unit meets a predetermined condition indicating invalidity and transmits a normal frame that conforms to the CAN protocol after the error frame is transmitted. Even when a reception error counter of the ECU connected to the bus is incremented due to the impact of the error frame, the reception error counter is decremented by the normal frame.

  • Publication number: 20200145293
Abstract: Provided is a network monitor for a mobility network used in a mobility entity. The mobility network is formed of a source unit, a destination unit, and one or more repeaters. Each repeater includes a network monitor that receives, from the source unit, an announcement for a bandwidth reservation. The announcement includes a value of a first bandwidth requirement for the source unit to perform first data communication. The network monitor further determines a determination result of whether to reserve the first bandwidth by comparing the value of the first bandwidth with a range of values of a second bandwidth for the first data communication specified in a white list stored in a database. The network monitor reserves the first bandwidth for performing the first data communication depending on the determination result, and transmits, to the source unit, a reservation status of the first bandwidth.

  • Publication number: 20200145252
Abstract: An in-vehicle relay device prevents an anomaly of a control command exchanged over networks having different transmittable data sizes in a frame. The in-vehicle relay device relays communication between multiple control devices in a vehicle over the networks to which the control devices are connected. The in-vehicle relay device receives control data from a first control network. The control data includes, in a frame, a plurality of control commands to be executed by at least one of the control devices. The in-vehicle relay device determines, as a first determination, whether types of the control commands included in the frame form a first combination that is preset as a combination of control commands that are executable simultaneously. The in-vehicle relay device thereafter determines, as a second determination, whether the control data is anomalous by using the result of the first determination, and outputs the result of the second determination.

  • Publication number: 20200145437
Abstract: An in-vehicle relay device for a vehicle is provided. The in-vehicle relay device includes a first communication circuit that transmits and receives first data to and from a first in-vehicle equipment in the vehicle. A second communication circuit transmits and receives second data to and from a second in-vehicle equipment in the vehicle. A control circuit controls relay of third data among the first communication circuit and the second communication circuit. In a case where reception data received by the control circuit from the first communication circuit or the second communication circuit is unauthorized, the control circuit stops relaying the third data in accordance with a traveling state of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20200137099
Abstract: An abnormality detection apparatus for a mobility entity and for detecting an abnormality in a network system is provided. The network system includes a first network and a second network that use different communication protocols. A first communication circuit receives state information indicating a state of the mobility entity. The state information is acquired from the second network. A second communication circuit transmits and receives a first frame according to a communication protocol used in the first network. A memory stores an abnormality detection rule. A processor detects, based on the state information and the abnormality detection rule, whether a control command included in the first frame received by the second communication circuit is abnormal. In a case where the control command is abnormal, the processor prohibits the control command from being transmitted.

  • Patent number: 10637657
Abstract: An update management method causes an external tool, capable of transmitting an update message to update data such as shared keys within electronic control units (ECUs) making up an onboard network, to update shared keys and the like within the ECUs, while reducing the risk of all ECUs being unauthorizedly rewritten in a case where secret information given to the external tool is leaked. The update management method receives and verifies update authority information indicating authority of the external tool. In a case that an update message instructing updating of shared keys or the like of one or multiple ECUs has been transmitted from the external tool, if the verification is successful and the update authority information indicates that the transmission of the update message is within the range of authority of the external tool, the update is executed at the ECU, and otherwise, update at the ECU is inhibited.
