  • Patent number: 8207667
Abstract: An organic EL display includes a substrate on which pixel areas are arranged in a matrix; first and second electrodes; functional material layers each including a carrier transport layer and a non-carrier transport layer; and a barrier to define the pixel areas. The barrier includes communication recesses arranged to extend the non-carrier transport layers from respective first pixel areas to respective second pixel areas adjacent to each other in the pixel areas defined by the barrier.

  • Patent number: 7679698
Abstract: A vertical alignment liquid crystal display device includes: a pair of substrates which are arranged opposite each other; a liquid crystal layer which is interposed between the paired substrates; an interlayer insulating film which is formed on at least either the first substrate or the second substrate and provided with an aperture which is rectangular when viewed in plan and opened toward the other substrate; a transmissive region provided within the periphery of the aperture and performs transmissive display; and a reflective electrode which is arranged along the periphery of the aperture. The liquid crystal display device further includes a light shield for preventing light from passing through discontinuity regions which are included in a portion of the liquid crystal layer corresponding to the aperture and where liquid crystal molecules are oriented in a discontinuous manner.

  • Patent number: 7298440
Abstract: A semitransmissive hometropic liquid crystal display device includes: an active matrix substrate; a counter substrate; a liquid crystal layer interposed between the substrates; and a plurality of pixels. Each pixel is comprised of a reflection section (that performs display in a reflection mode) and a transmission section (that performs display in a transmission mode). The liquid crystal display device further includes an electrode covering (13, 14) configured whereby voltage applied to the liquid crystal layer in the reflection section approximates the voltage applied to the transmission section. The electrode covering film (13, 14) comprises a transparent conductive film which functions as applied voltage adjusting means by compensating for a difference in a work function between the reflecting electrode (5) and the transparent electrode (6).

  • Publication number: 20050110928
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes: an active matrix substrate; a counter substrate; a liquid crystal layer interposed between the substrates; and a plurality of pixels each composed of a reflection section that performs display in a reflection mode and a transmission section that performs display in a transmission mode. The active matrix substrate is provided with a reflecting electrode for applying voltage to the liquid crystal layer in the reflection section and a transparent electrode electrically connected with the reflecting electrode for applying voltage to the liquid crystal layer in the transmission section. The counter substrate is provided with a common electrode that faces the active matrix substrate. The liquid crystal display device further includes an electrode covering film that approximates the voltage applied to the liquid crystal layer in the reflection section to the voltage applied to the transmission section.
