  • Patent number: 6964192
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for monitoring a torque of a drive unit (1) of a vehicle (5) are suggested. The method and arrangement make possible a reliable detection of a fault condition for an essentially constant actuation of an operator-controlled element. The torque, which is to be monitored, is compared to a permissible torque. The permissible torque is readjusted to the torque, which is to be monitored. A fault is detected when the torque, which is to be monitored, deviates from the permissible torque by more than a first pregiven value. The fault is only detected for the case wherein a position of an operator-controlled element, especially an accelerator pedal position, lies within a pregiven tolerance range at least since a first pregiven time.

  • Patent number: 6854444
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for controlling a drive unit are suggested wherein a maximum permissible value of an output quantity is determined. This maximum permissible value is compared to the actual value and, when the permissible value is exceeded by the actual value, reaction measures are initiated. The maximum permissible value is filtered at least in one operating state in accordance with filter means including a filter and a dead zone member. Furthermore, the maximum permissible value is continuously reduced in dependence upon the approaching of at least one quantity to a limit value. This quantity represents an operating state.

  • Patent number: 6628993
Abstract: A method and an arrangement mutually monitor control units. The control units are built up of three program levels. A first level is for executing the control apparatus functions and a second level is provided for monitoring the control apparatus functions and a third level is for monitoring the programs of the second level. A first control unit sends out a selected question to a second control unit which answers the same in the context of a sequence control. The second control unit sends the formed answer back to the first control unit which then, on the basis of a comparison of the formed answer to the expected answer, determines the freedom from fault of the second control unit. Correspondingly, the first control unit is monitored by the second control unit via communication.

  • Patent number: 6588257
Abstract: The plausibility check takes place in such a way that a first piece of load information is derived as a function of the throttle valve position and a differential pressure determined from the pressure upstream of the throttle valve and the pressure downstream of the throttle valve. In addition, a second piece of load information is derived as a function of the intake valve lift and the engine speed. The smaller of the two pieces of load information is compared with the measured load. If this measured load deviates from the load information an error of the measured load is signaled.

  • Patent number: 6393356
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and an arrangement for controlling a drive unit of a vehicle wherein maximum permissible value is pregiven for monitoring purposes for the output quantity for the drive unit. In this value, requirement values of at least one consumer and/or one ancillary function are included. The inclusion only takes place when the at least one consumer and/or the ancillary function is actually active. To determine whether the consumer and/or ancillary function is active, two pieces of data as to the activation state are evaluated, which pieces of data are independent of each other.

  • Patent number: 6386180
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for operating internal combustion engines is suggested which is operated in at least one operating state with a lean air/fuel mixture. The fuel mass, which is to be injected, or the injection time, which is to be outputted, is determined in dependence upon a desired value. For monitoring the operability, the actual torque of the engine is determined on the basis of the fuel mass, which is to be injected, or the injection time, which is to be outputted, or the outputted injection time and compared to a maximum permissible torque and a fault reaction is initiated when the actual torque exceeds the maximum permissible torque. Parallel to the above, a quantity, which represents the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas, is compared to at least one pregiven limit value and a fault reaction is initiated when this quantity exceeds the limit value.

  • Patent number: 6368248
Abstract: A method and a device for controlling a drive unit of a vehicle in which the actual torque of the drive unit is compared to a specified, maximum allowable torque for monitoring purposes. When the actual torque exceeds the maximum allowable torque, the drive unit is controlled in a torque-reducing manner. The actual torque of the drive unit is determined on the basis of a signal representing vehicle acceleration. Instead of comparing absolute values, a differential comparison is carried out.

  • Patent number: 6295501
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and an arrangement for controlling a drive unit wherein at least one measurement signal quantity (U1) is detected. This measurement signal quantity (U1) has at least one end value and the control of the drive unit is undertaken in dependence thereon. Furthermore, a calibration value for this measurement quantity is pregiven and the measurement quantity is converted into a relative measurement quantity (wped) in dependence upon the calibration value. Several measurement signal quantity ranges are pregiven and that range is determined to which the end value of the measurement signal quantity is assigned. The calibration then takes place on the basis of a base value assigned to this region.

  • Patent number: 6223721
Abstract: A method and arrangement for controlling a drive unit of a vehicle are suggested. A desired torque value or a desired power value is formed on the basis of the driver command which serves to control the drive unit. A maximum permissible torque or a maximum permissible power is determined and the desired value is limited to the maximum permissible value when the desired value exceeds the maximum permissible value.

  • Patent number: 6076500
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and an arrangement for controlling the torque of a drive unit of a motor vehicle. The desired torque or the actual torque of the drive unit is set into a relationship with a pregiven maximum permissible torque and the actual torque is limited or is reduced when the desired torque or the actual torque exceeds the maximum permissible torque. In one operating state, wherein the torque of the drive unit is increased by an additional loading, the maximum permissible torque is increased.

  • Patent number: 5875760
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method of controlling a drive unit of a motor vehicle wherein the drive unit is controlled in dependence upon at least one operating variable. The operating variable is detected with at least first and second measuring devices as first and second quantities, respectively, thereby providing a redundant detection of the operating variable. The two measuring devices are mounted so that they move in synchronism with each other within a predetermined tolerance. The second quantity is checked for a fault utilizing a comparison in the context of the tolerance of the synchronism of movement. A fault without a movement out of the tolerance is detected when the value of the second quantity does not change in correspondence to the value of the first quantity within at least a predetermined value range of the operating variable. The invention is also directed to an arrangement of controlling the drive unit in dependence upon the operating variable.
