  • Patent number: 8156521
Abstract: A receiver has a tuner for receiving a TV broadcast program and a modem for receiving an e-mail. Also, the receiver outputs a message if there exists any unopened e-mail. In addition, the receiver has a camera for sending a videophone image. A viewer in front of the receiver is recognized, and it is determined whether or not the recognized viewer matches the addressee of the unopened e-mail. If a result of the determination is negative, a message output operation is prohibited.

  • Patent number: 7656463
Abstract: A paper medium having a bar code printed thereon is distributed to a viewer as a leaflet or the like. The bar code has channel setting information related to a certain area recorded thereon. The channel setting information is stored in a nonvolatile memory by reading the bar code using a reader in a broadcasting receiver. If a button corresponding to a preset number in a remote controller is pressed, the receiver acquires a physical channel number using the channel setting information, to perform channel selection processing.

  • Patent number: 7624419
Abstract: Information indicating which of channels is selected in a digital broadcasting receiver 17 is fed from a control signal transmitter 16 to a retransmitter 14. A terrestrial wave digital broadcasting wave from a transmitting station is inputted to a channel selection filter 6 through an indoor receiving antenna 1 and an automatic gain controller 4 in the retransmitter 14, and only a signal having a frequency component corresponding to the channel selected by the digital broadcasting receiver 17 is extracted, and is transmitted toward the digital broadcasting receiver 17 by a retransmission indoor antenna 13 through a variable gain amplifier 7.

  • Publication number: 20080250463
Abstract: A digital broadcasting receiver is equipped with: either at least one lookup table of positive and negative weighted BER factors each assigned to one of predetermined classes of BER of a receivable broadcast signal or a function for deriving said weighted BER factors; at least one counter adapted to classify measured values of BER of the broadcast signal received, obtain BER factors assigned to the measured values, and add up said weighted BER factors as BER is measured at regular time intervals; and control means for controlling said switching means based on the count of said counter, thereby generating proper switching timing for switching broadcast layers in response to the varying reception status of the broadcast signal. As a result, in switching the layers to be presented, frequent switching of the layers can be suppressed while preventing disturbances in video and audio caused by reception errors. The receiver can easily manage holding time for holding the current layer as it is prior to a switching.

  • Patent number: 7391823
Abstract: A demodulation circuit generates information related to the frequency of error correction, and feeds the information to a CPU. The CPU acquires noise intensity data on the basis of the information related to the frequency of error correction from the demodulation circuit in view of noise intensity data corresponding to the frequency of error correction stored in a memory. The CPU feeds the acquired noise intensity data to a D/A converter. The D/A converter feeds a noise control voltage to a voltage controlled amplifier. Noises produced in a noise source are overlaid on a signal in an adder after the intensity thereof is adjusted in the voltage controlled amplifier.

  • Patent number: 7221412
Abstract: Disclosed in a digital broadcasting receiver comprising first means for performing pre-scan processing for successively tuning in on channels previously set, to examine whether or not a received signal on each of the channels is of a predetermined quality or more, and temporarily registering the channel numbers of the channels on which the received signals are of the predetermined quality or more in a storage device as receivable channel candidates, and second means for performing normal scan processing for successively tuning in on the receivable channel candidates temporarily registered in the storage device by the first means, to acquire and register necessary channel information.

  • Patent number: 7206032
Abstract: A CPU stores, when there is a difference between current channel information and new channel information obtained by a new channel search, the new channel information in a memory while holding a state where the current channel information is registered (contents stored in a non-volatile memory). The CPU displays on a screen the channel information between which the difference is presented using an OSD circuit, and changes the contents of the registration of the current channel information on the basis of the new channel information by a user operation on the screen.

  • Publication number: 20030182657
Abstract: When a priority channel is set, a user tunes in on a channel to be the priority channel in a receiver. Priority channel registration processing is started in data broadcasting appended to the channel. The receiver acquires a telephone number of a broadcasting enterpriser device in data broadcasting, and connects a telephone thereto. The broadcasting enterpriser device acquires user information from the receiver, and stores in the receiver its broadcasting enterpriser code as the priority channel. Thereafter, the channel having the broadcasting enterpriser code is tuned in on when a TV is turned on.
