  • Patent number: 6104264
Abstract: A dielectric waveguide has a plurality of dielectric ceramic sheets each having a high-dielectric-constant portion and a low-dielectric-constant portion. The dielectric ceramic sheets are laminated and baked and electrode films are formed on the outer surfaces thereof. Thus, a dielectric waveguide is obtained in which the high-dielectric-constant portion serves as a propagating area and the low-dielectric-constant portion serves as a non-propagating area.

  • Patent number: 6031433
Abstract: A dielectric waveguide which has a pair of dielectric substrates affixed to each other and a pair of electrically-conductive layers on the external surfaces of the two dielectric substrates. Each dielectric substrate has a projecting part that is thicker than other parts. A propagating region is formed where the projecting parts on the two opposing dielectric substrates are put together. Furthermore, a circuit is formed on the contact surface between the dielectric substrates. The circuit may include an electronic component. A part of the circuit is arranged in the propagating region so as to provide electromagnetic-field coupling between the circuit and the dielectric waveguide.

  • Patent number: 5990764
Abstract: An intersect-line apparatus has two conductor plates. An HE-mode dielectric resonator and four dielectric strips to be coupled to the resonator are disposed between the two conductor plates. The adjacent four dielectric strips are spaced from each other substantially at 90 degrees. Accordingly, signals propagating in two strip lines positioned substantially at 180 degrees and signals propagating in the remaining two strip lines cross each other within the dielectric resonator without interfering with each other.

  • Patent number: 5982255
Abstract: A dielectric waveguide has a dielectric member disposed between a pair of parallel conductor flat surfaces, such that a propagating region and a non-propagating region are formed. The spacing between the conductor flat surfaces in the non-propagating region is determined to be smaller than that in the propagating region. The above-mentioned spacings and the dielectric constant of the dielectric member are determined such that the cut-off frequency of the LSM.sub.01 mode propagating through the propagating region is lower than the cut-off frequency of the LSE.sub.01 mode and that electromagnetic waves of both the LSM.sub.01 mode and the LSE.sub.01 mode are cut-off in the non-propagating region, so that any transmission loss attributable to a mode conversion between the LSM.sub.01 mode and LSE.sub.01 mode occurring at, for example, a bend of the waveguide is eliminated so as to facilitate production of the waveguide having a desired bend angle and radius of curvature.

  • Patent number: 5970401
Abstract: A balanced-type mixer having easier mounting of a circuit board into a dielectric line apparatus, easier matching between a dielectric line and diodes, and reduced conversion loss. A first conductor pattern is disposed in a direction substantially perpendicular to first dielectric strips which constitute a first NRD guide, first and second filter circuits are provided at positions on opposite sides of the first dielectric strips, thus forming a first resonance circuit, and beam lead diodes are mounted in series within the resonance circuit. Further, a second conductor pattern is extended substantially from the midpoint between the filter circuits, and a third filter circuit is provided, thus forming a second resonance circuit. A second NRD guide based on second dielectric strips is connected to the second resonance circuit.

  • Patent number: 5917232
Abstract: A dielectric-line component (such as an oscillator or circulator) has a dielectric strip between a pair of electrically conductive flat-plates. The component is to be combined with another dielectric-line component which also has dielectric strips between a pair of conductive plates. When these components are assembled, a pair of conductive plates of the respective two components opposedly face each other at a first position, while the other pair of conductive plates of the respective two components opposedly face each other at a second position. The first and second positions are displaced from each other in the vertical direction and in the length direction in relation to the conductive plates. Further, the opposing faces of the dielectric strips of the two components are positioned in an area defined by the first and second positions, either between the first and second positions or at one of the first and second positions, for example.

  • Patent number: 5867120
Abstract: A transmitter-receiver whose overall size can be reduced by decreasing areas occupied by a bend portion and a coupler portion of a nonradiative dielectric (NRD) waveguide. The size is not restricted by the radius of curvature and the bending angle of the bend portion. In this transmitter-receiver, the NRD waveguide is adapted so that waves are transmitted in a single mode, namely, LSM01 mode. Further, an oscillator, an isolator, a mixer and a coupler are placed in the rear of a dielectric lens. Thus, the transmitter-receiver fits within the size of the antenna.

  • Patent number: 5049842
Abstract: This dielectric resonator comprises a cylindrical hollow case made of metal, a cylindrical hollow dielectric resonator element which is fixed and held in the case, and a dielectric tuning unit which is inserted into or withdrawn from a hollow portion of the dielectric resonator element. The hollow portion of the dielectric resonator element is formed by at least one, or a plurality of, cutout portions which extend along respective radii of the cylindrical dielectric resonator. In this dielectric resonator, the overall effective dielectric constant as a whole can be varied by inserting the tuning unit into or withdrawing it from the hollow portion of the dielectric resonator element. When the tuning unit is withdrawn from the hollow portion of the dielectric resonator element, part of an electric field path at the dielectric resonator element is interrupted by the cutout portions.
