  • Patent number: 5609736
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and apparatus for decomposing toxic compounds so that reaction by-products produced thereby are selectively reduced. A method generally comprises: introducing a carrier gas, having a toxic compound entrained therein, into a packed-bed of ferroelectric pellets; and polarizing the pellets to produce a plasma which decomposes the toxic compound. The pellets are coated with a catalyst selected to react with by-products of the decomposition of the toxic compound and thereby produce non-toxic compounds.

  • Patent number: 5185873
Abstract: A data driven type instruction execution method for controlling execution of instructions by using a memory storing an input data available source, an output message destination to which the results of the operation performed are sent and an input data number counters for indicating availability of the input data to each of the instructions. A flag indicating the number of input data required for each instruction is not less than two, an input data number counter for the instruction requiring two or more input data and an initialization table for setting an initial value of the counter. The content of the flag is referred and deciding that the instruction can be executed when the flag indicates the input data number of one. The input data counter is decremented when the input data number is two or more, and deciding that the instruction can be executed when the decrement of the input data counter results in zero.

  • Patent number: 5156124
Abstract: A fuel injection structure for an internal combustion engine includes a straight intake port defining passage formed in an intake passage of the engine and a fuel injection valve disposed within a passage-defining wall which defines the straight intake port defining passage therein. The fuel injection valve is arranged inside the intake passage in parallel with a passage axis of the straight intake port defining passage in an elevational view of the engine. The fuel is injected from the fuel injection valve and flows in parallel with the intake air flow. Due to the parallel flow of the fuel and the intake air, the injected fuel does not tend to adhere to the wall surface of the intake port defining passage. This parallel flow is not affected by a change in the speed of the intake air flow.

  • Patent number: 4979963
Abstract: This invention provides a process for coloring expandable beads of polystyrene resins which comprises suspending expandable beads of a polystyrene resin and a dye in water in a closed vessel and heating this aqueous suspension at a temperature above the softening point of the expandable beads, wherein the closed vessel is filled up almost completely with the aqueous suspension and heating is conducted without further addition of any blowing agent, whereby the expandable beads are impregnated uniformly with the dye. According to this process, uniformly colored expandable beads of polystyrene resins are obtained at a high efficiency of dye impregnation without using any impregnation aid or the like, the expandable beads being capable of forming beautiful molded foams of uniform color.

  • Patent number: 4696379
Abstract: A hydraulic buffer includes a cylinder, a piston disposed movably in the cylinder to partition the interior of the cylinder into two liquid chambers, and a piston rod connected to the piston and having a first path communicating with one of the liquid chambers and extending axially beyond the piston and a second path communicating with the other of the liquid chambers. A solenoid valve received in the piston rod has a tubular spool disposed movably axially of the piston rod and has a third path capable of communicating with the second path in the piston rod. Further, inside the spool is disposed a pipe having a fourth path capable of communicating with the third path in the spool and communicating with the first path in the piston rod.

  • Patent number: 4611055
Abstract: Sucrose fatty acid polyesters are produced by heating a molten mixture of sucrose, fatty acid lower alkyl ester, transesterification catalyst, fatty acid alkali metal soap and/or sucrose fatty acid ester. Sucrose fatty acid polyesters are purified by acidifying the reaction product and subjecting the acidified reaction product to molecular distillation whereby the sucrose fatty acid polyesters are recovered as the residue.

  • Patent number: 4358282
Abstract: A constant velocity ball joint in which each of the rotary members of the bearing portion, such as an outer race, cage and inner race is chamfered at one axial end of inner or outer spherical portion thereof at an angle of 2.degree. to 15.degree. to the line tangent to the axial end and at a chamfering width of 1 mm or greater. Thanks to the provision of chamfering, the breakage of lubricating oil film under application of heavy load is avoided to ensure a smooth rotation of the bearing and high durability of the constant velocity ball joint.

  • Patent number: 4305263
Abstract: A constant velocity universal joint wherein its outer race has a larger radius of curvature than its inner race at the transverse sectional surface of the ball rolling groove at the point of contact between the ball and the ball rolling groove. Concave and convex surface portions of a ball rolling groove have a characteristic such that when the inner and outer races have the same radius of curvature at the transverse sectional surface of the ball rolling groove, the contact stress of the ball rolling groove of the outer race becomes lower than that of the inner race. By varying the radius of curvature on the transverse sectional surface of the ball rolling groove of the outer race from that of the inner race to render the contact stresses of the two grooves equal to each other, it is possible to facilitate working of the grooves and yet to achieve the same degree of precision finishes as has hitherto been achieved.

  • Patent number: 4186539
Abstract: A modular building panel is provided having interlocking bead and groove conformations formed in mating interfitting tongue and socket structures and provided with sealing strips for forming a fluid seal between adjacent assembled panels. The modular building panel is fabricated with longitudinally extending marginal edge portions of mating tongue and socket configurations for enabling interfitting assembly of adjacently disposed panels. The tongue and socket edge portions of each panel are provided with respective interlocking bead and groove conformations for cooperative interlocking engagement for securing adjacently disposed panels in assembled relationship. A sealing strip formed from an elastomeric material is attached to at least one of the socket or tongue marginal edge portions in longitudinally extending relationship thereto and at a location for contacting interengagement with surfaces of the adjacently assembled panel in forming a fluid impervious seal therewith.
