  • Patent number: 5126868
Abstract: A display cell is mounted on a color-compensating cell. The display cell has a pair of substrates each having an alignment-treated surface, a first liquid-crystal layer and electrodes. Multiplex drive signals are supplied to the electrodes. The color-compensating cell has a second liquid-crystal layer. The molecules of the first liquid-crystal layer are twisted by a twist angle ranging from 160.degree. to 270.degree.. The molecules of the second liquid-crystal layer are twisted by the same angle in the opposite direction. The substrates are alignment-treated in two directions, respectively, which are substantially at right angles to each other. One of the polarizing plates has an optical axis crossing at 35.degree. to 50.degree. with an aligning direction of the liquid crystal molecules on that substrate adjacent to the polarizing plate, and crossing with the optical axis of the other polarizing plate at right angles.

  • Patent number: 5008166
Abstract: A method of manufacturing color filters in which a photosensitive film, which is used for forming filter elements, is formed on a substrate. A photomask with a given stripe pattern is placed above the photoresistive film. Under this condition, the photomasked-film is subjected to a first exposure process. The photomask is then moved in the direction of the stripes in the mask pattern. Following a second exposure process, developing, dyeing and dyeing-preventing processes are performed for color filter element formation. The foregoing steps are performed for each filter element for a specified color.

  • Patent number: 4925295
Abstract: A projection display apparatus includes a light source unit for generating light for image formation, an electro-optical display device for displaying an optical image by utilizing the light emitted from the light source unit, and an enlarging/projection lens. The light source unit, the display device, and the projection lens are accommodated in a housing with vent openings. The housing also includes a fan for cooling the interior of the housing with cool air and a cooler for maintaining a display panel within a predetermined temperature range. The light source unit includes a lamp and a reflector and is designed not to cause image deformation and formation of a shadow of a discharge portion. In order to display a television image on the display device, all television image display circuit units excluding an antenna are accommodated in the housing. The enlarging/projection lens can control a magnification and a focal point of the image projected on the screen.
