  • Publication number: 20110143602
Abstract: A plug connector (100) has an insulative housing (103) with an. elongated mating blade (104) that supports a plurality of conductors (130) in the form of conductive surfaces disposed on a mating face of the mating blade. Dielectric barriers (150) are disposed on the conductive surfaces so that galvanic connection with contacts on a circuit board is prevented. The dielectric barriers permit transfer of electrical signals from the plug connector conductors to the circuit board contacts. The plug connector fits into a shell member (200) mounted to the circuit board (153) and the shell member includes a plurality of cantilevered press arms (220) that apply a contact pressure on the plug connector to ensure contact between the dielectric barriers and the circuit board contacts.

  • Publication number: 20100075529
Abstract: A connector for connecting together two ends of flat flexible cable includes a base member and a cover member. The base member has a plurality of slots that receive a corresponding number of conductive terminals. The terminals have two upward bends in them near their midpoint and these bends are spaced apart longitudinally along the terminals so as to mate with exposed ends of the lengths of flat cable. • Patent number: 6439931
Abstract: A method and structure of an electrical connector is provided for tuning the impedance of the terminals in the connector. The connector includes a dielectric housing having a plurality of terminal-receiving passages. A plurality of terminals are shaped from sheet metal material, with each terminal having a contact portion at one end and a terminating portion at an opposite end. The contact portion has a contact area which engages a mating terminal of a complementary mating connecting device. The contact portion, except for the contact thereof, or the tail portion, is selectively trimmed to a given size to vary the plate area of the contact portion or the tail portion to adjust the impedance of the terminal. This may be done by removing sections of the contact portion from the contact edges or by forming holes in the contact portions. Alternatively, to adjust impedance, a drive shoulder of the terminal may be located at a position to lengthen or shorten the contact portion or tail portion.

  • Patent number: 6431882
Abstract: An improved electrical connector has a series of terminals arranged in two parallel rows in the connector housing, with the terminals being separated into upper and lower levels. The tail portions of the upper terminals have intermediate portions that are bent down to descend obliquely from the rear side of the connector housing while the tail portions of the lower terminals have corresponding intermediate portions that are bent up to rise obliquely from the rear side of the connector housing. The intermediate portions of the upper and lower rows of terminals meet with the solder tail portions of the tail portions along a common length so that the tail portions of both upper and lower rows have the same electrical length. The intermediate portions of both rows of terminals are also tapered, or flared along their length so that they have a larger surface area where they exit the connector housing than where they join to their associated solder tail portions.

  • Patent number: 6280227
Abstract: A plug connector is provided having a mechanism to lock with a mated socket connector and to enhance grounding. The plug connector includes a movable latch having a retractable claw. The claw is received within a corresponding recess in the socket connector in an inserted condition to prevent unintentional removal. The latch is movably mounted within a rigid conductive shell of the plug connector. The latch has a pressing portion that is accessible through a first aperture in the shell, and the claw projects through a second aperture. A latch spring is disposed in the shell to bias the latch outwardly. In an embodiment, the spring is unitarily formed with two free ends that are normally slightly offset from one another. The free ends pass over each other with a slight “click” interference when the latch spring is deflected. At an opposite side of the plug connector, a grounding spring projects outwardly from a recess in the shell for also contacting a recess in the mated socket connector.
