  • Patent number: 4677601
Abstract: Disclosed is a new magnetic storage medium including a layer of amorphous material typically GdDyFe whose Curie recording point (e.g., 120.degree. C.) is lower than its crystallization point (e.g., 350.degree. C.) to enable crystallization to cause variations in its optical properties such as transmittance or reflectivity for thermomagnetic writing. Reversible recordings are set up on the amorphous material layer by a thermomagnetic writing technique, for example Curie point writing, while unchangeable or permanent recordings are set up on the amorphous material layer through laser-activated crystallization of the amorphous material layer.

  • Patent number: 4667315
Abstract: A light beam position controlling apparatus includes a linear motor for driving an optical head in the radial direction of an optical disk, a radial actuator built-in within said optical head and adapted to drive an objective lens for causing the light beam to be accurately positioned in the radial direction of the optical disk and to rotate a mirror for causing the light beam to be deflected in the radial direction of the optical disk, which can be improved in the compression factor of the servo performance, by providing a phase lag compensation circuit and a damping correction circuit for increasing the gain of the transfer function at the resonance frequency of both the linear motor and radial actuator.

  • Patent number: 4660190
Abstract: Disclosed below is a control device for positioning an optical focus in an optical disc apparatus that records, plays back, and erases any information by irradiating optical beams such as the laser beams onto a recording media composed of magnetic film, wherein the control device is characterized in that; it incorporates a focussing permanent magnet that makes up a closed magnetic circuit, a focussing yoke plate, a focussing yoke, and a focussing device coil installed so that it crosses a focussing magnetic space existing that exists between the focussing yoke plate and the focussing yoke so that the focussing magnetic space can be created in an area close to the recording media which is installed in the closed magnetic circuit. In addition, the optical focus position control device that executes both the tracking and focussing control operations for the optical disc apparatus also includes mechanism that drives the objective lens in the direction of dual axes, i.e.

  • Patent number: 4658390
Abstract: An optical focus position control system in an opto-magnetic disc apparatus includes a tracking control device and a focus control device. The tracking control device includes an intermediate holder, a tracking parallel spring which connects an cylindrical objective lens support to the intermediate holder while ensuring movement of the cylindrical objective lens support in the radial direction of the opto-magnetic disc, and a tracking drive mechanism to shift the cylindrical objective lens support in the radial direction within the intermediate holder. The focus control device includes a stationary holder, a focusing parallel spring which connects the intermediate holder to the stationary holder while ensuring movement of the intermediate holder in the direction of the optical axis of laser beams emitted through the optical focus position control system, and a focusing drive mechanism to shift the intermediate holder in the optical axis direction within the stationary holder.

  • Patent number: 4573149
Abstract: A magneto-optical head assembly for a reflection type magneto-optical memory apparatus uses a laser beam for recording, retrieving, and erasing data on a recording medium comprised of a vertical, magnetic, and anisotropic thin film. The light beam emitted from the head assembly is guided to a fixed position on said recording medium. Included are a light detection apparatus for receiving a control signal, and a separate light detection apparatus for receiving a data signal. A beam splitter, to which has been applied a multicoated thin film dielectric body capable of increasing the Kerr rotation angle of the laser beam reflected from the recording medium, is positioned in the optical system through which the laser beam passes.

  • Patent number: 4497006
Abstract: There is disclosed a head assembly for use in a magneto-optic recording/playback system which includes a memory medium having a magnetic coating having a magnetic anisotropy in a vertical direction. A light beam is applied to the memory medium for recording and reproduction of information. The head assembly includes a polarizing prism and a Faraday effect element in an optical path for the light beam. There is needed only the single polarizer.

  • Patent number: 4414650
Abstract: A magneto-optic memory medium comprises a reflector exhibiting reflectance for light used for information reproduction and a magneto-optic magnetization film disposed on the reflector. When light is applied for information reproduction, the light impinges on the magnetization film and reaches the reflector. The light reflected through the reflector and the magnetization film is of use for information reproduction. In a preferred form of the magneto-optic memory medium, there is deposited on a transparent substrate a magnetic film having an axis of easy magnetization perpendicular to its surface. The magnetization film is overlaid with a reflective coating which is shaped into a strip configuration.
