    Abstract: A printer receives image information from a host computer and performs printing based on the image information. When an optional unit is newly attached to the printer, the printer changes the device ID which is selected from an ID ROM in accordance with the optional unit. Then output from an interface circuit is changed so that the host computer detects the change of the output from the interface circuit. The host computer makes a device-ID request to the printer to obtain the device ID corresponding to the optional device. Then the host computer determines whether or not a printer driver which is currently operative corresponds to the printer with the newly-attached optional device.

    Abstract: A method of and a device for cold drawing seamless metal tubes, each tube having an upset portion on both ends. The draw bench comprises a reducing die, a die control unit, a plug control unit including a plug and a draw unit. The reducing die has an internal surface including an inlet portion which tapers rearwardly, a small diameter bearing portion and an oppositely inclined outlet portion. A plug includes a rearwardly tapered portion, a large diameter bearing portion, a forwardly tapered portion, a small diameter cylindrical portion, a rearwardly tapered portion and a large diameter cylindrical forward bearing portion. The plug control unit is mainly movable with respect to the die control unit by a pair of hydraulic units, but the control unit is also movable with respect to the plug control unit for changing a cross sectional reducing area between the reducing die and the plug.

The method is characterized in that the cross sectional reducing area between the reducing die and the plug is preferably changed in accordance with the desired forms of a mother tube to be drawn by longitudinally transferring the reducing die and the plug and fixing them at the selected positions.

    Abstract: A portable word processor incorporates a keyboard for typing-in data relating to a textual document, a microprocessor for processing the data, and a microcassette recorder for storing each page of the textual data when typing of the page is complete. A half-line character display is situated on an operating panel of the word processor above the keyboard. The microprocessor includes a text buffer memory having a capacity corresponding to one page, favorably 1800 characters or 66 lines. A cassette recorder interface is included to control operation of the cassette during transfer of textual data from the text buffer memory for storage on the microcassette tape, and transfer of the data to the text buffer memory from the tape for editing and revision of the textual document. The microcassette recorder can store pages of the textual data intermittently with voice recording, such as dictation, on the same tape.
