  • Patent number: 4894579
Abstract: An apparatus for effecting a fine movement of an object for making use of impact produced by a piezoelectric/electrostrictive element having a moving member, a piezoelectric/electrostrictive element attached to said moving member, means for driving the piezoelectric/electrostrictive element, and an inertia member operative in response to the driving of the piezoelectric/electrostrictive element so as to impart an impact to the moving member. As an electric field is applied to the piezoelectric/electrostrictive element, a strain is caused by a stress which acts to expand or contract the piezoelectric/electrostrictive element to a length determined by the level of the electric field. By making use of this phenomenon, impact is produced by the inertia member which operates in response to the stress, thereby effecting a step-like fine movement of the moving member.

  • Patent number: 4884329
Abstract: A precision automatic assembly apparatus for inserting an insertable part into a hole formed in a member includes a movable hand incorporating a movable body to which the insertable part is attached, and an electromagnetic wrist mechanism having a plurality of electromagnets for supporting the movable body and controlling the movable body along a plurality of axes. When the part is inserted into the hole formed in the member, an external force which acts upon the part and the position of a point at which the part contacts the member are estimated by a control unit via position sensing means incorporated in the hand. Currents supplied to the excitation coils of the electromagnetic devices are controlled on the basis of the estimate to adjust the state (position and attitude) of the insertable part, whereby the part is fitted into the hole smoothly and automatically.

  • Patent number: 4694401
Abstract: Where a rotating device, for example, such as a lathe, a pen-recorder, etc., is used to depict a non-circular shape, a position of a cutting tool, a pen, etc. is controlled by a method such as NC (numerical control). Generally, delay in control occurs due to the transmission characteristic of the control system, thus producing a distortion in the formed shape. This distortion can be removed by inserting an element having a reverse transmission characteristic into the control system.

  • Patent number: 4683391
Abstract: An actuator is provided with a rotor formed to include teeth at a predetermined pitch and a rotation control coil is wound on each of plural pole pieces formed on a core member opposing the rotor, the coils forming first, second, third and fourth magnetic poles. The rotor is rotatatively driven and angularly positioned by attracting forces between the magnetic poles and the teeth of the rotor. Magnetic flotation coils are wound on the base portion of the magnetic member to form magnetic flotation poles. The rotor is floated magnetically by attracting forces between the magnetic flotation poles and the teeth of the rotor. In an embodiment, the rotor is provided with grooves crossing the teeth to form the teeth into a mesh-like configuration. The mesh-like teeth cooperate with the magnetic poles to provide a holding force in the axial direction, so that a function equivalent to that of a thrust bearing may be performed.

  • Patent number: 4642500
Abstract: An electromagnetic bearing apparatus having five degrees of freedom includes two radial magnetic bearings. Each of the radial bearings consists of two pairs of electromagnets. The electromagnets of one pair are arranged opposite one another around a rotating shaft, and the other pair is arranged in the same perpendicular plane as the preceding pair. The pairs of electromagnets in the two radial bearings are respectively controlled to stabilize the rotating shaft to obtain automatic regulation, in which deviation of the shaft in a radial sense is compensated according to the component of shaft radial deviation and deviating velocity and the gyro-effect which will be caused by the perpendicular compensating torque to compensate the future rotation in the perpendicular component.
