  • Patent number: 6443049
Abstract: A hydraulic piston for a disc brake assembly includes a metallic cylinder with a bottom at one end and a hollow resin cylinder with an opening at each end. The hollow resin cylinder is disposed in an inner surface of the metallic cylinder and closes the opening at one end of the hollow resin cylinder. The hollow resin cylinder further includes a main part disposed in the inner surface of the metallic cylinder and a flange portion having an outer diameter which is wider than the outer diameter of the main part of the hollow resin cylinder. The flange portion is formed on the main part at the other end of the hollow resin cylinder, integrally or with a separate member. An annular groove is defined between the flange portion and an open end of the metallic cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6161660
Abstract: A disc rotor for a disc brake which is designed to make it difficult to cause brake squeal includes inner and outer discs, and first and second radially extending long holes formed in the outer and inner discs. The angular intervals between the long holes are made to differ between the outer disc and the inner disc, and two vibration modes are produced to interfere with each other during braking operation by which the occurrence of a steady-state vibration mode is restrained. In addition fins are provided between the two discs, with the fins including several fins arranged to reinforce both the inner and outer discs.

  • Patent number: 5836427
Abstract: A disc brake assembly that includes a mounting bracket formed with an attachment face for engagement with the corresponding attachment face of a stationary support bracket and fixed to the stationary support bracket by way of a fastening bolt, is provided with a damping element to reduce brake squeal caused by compound vibration acting on the mounting bracket during braking operation. The damping element is positioned between the attachment faces of the mounting bracket and the stationary support bracket. The damping element can take various forms including a metallic washer covered on opposite faces with rubber members, or an annular rubber element having metallic washers adhered to its opposite faces. The damping element can also be in the form of a shim plate in which rubber plates are secured to opposite faces, or a pair of shim plates secured to opposite faces of a rubber plate.

  • Patent number: 5735366
Abstract: A disc brake rotor has a plurality of radial groves on its opposite sides that are equiangularly spaced. The angular interval of the grooves on one side is different from the angular interval of the grooves on the other side, so that the vibrations of two different modes caused by the grooves on the opposite sides interfere with each other during braking operation. By thus suppressing stationary wave mode vibrations, the disc brake rotor prevents production of brake squeals.

  • Patent number: 5649610
Abstract: A pad clip for a disc brake includes a base portion for engaging with a concave portion of a mounting member of the disc brake, a spring portion which extends from the base portion for forcing a projection portion of a disc pad of the disc brake which is fit into the concave portion in the radial direction of the wheel and a curved extension portion which connects the spring portion to the base portion.
