Patent number: 6210286Abstract: A riding game system provides a feeling as if a player is riding on a real animal. The riding game system includes a mimetic animal device and a display showing a virtual space. The mimetic animal device is in the form of a horse having a head and a body. The player controls the mimetic animal device like controlling an animal in the virtual space by riding on the body, gripping a rein portion provided on the head and placing the player's foot on a pair of steps provided at the body. The head is inclined up and down and rotated from side to side. The body is rocked back and forth while the steps are also rocked back and forth. The rotational movement of the head from side to side and the rocking movement of the body backward and forward are detected as information for controlling the virtual horse in the virtual space.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1999Date of Patent: April 3, 2001Assignee: Namco, Ltd.Inventors: Toshiya Ohara, Hideaki Yamamoto, Sumito Oda, Takashi Ohwaki

Patent number: 5662003Abstract: A steering wheel device used for driving simulators or the like utilizing a steering wheel is designed so that when the steering wheel rotates, the steering wheel shaft and the stopper arm rotate. The auxiliary shaft then rotates in the opposite direction by the engagement of a first gear wheel and a second gear wheel so as to rotate the stopper. The number of teeth of the second gear wheel is greater than that of the first gear wheel so that the steering wheel makes more than one revolution. The stopper arm is designed to hit the stopper to limit the rotation range of the steering wheel. The rotation torque of the steering wheel acts only between the stopper and the stopper arm and not between the gear wheels. As a result, the load applied to both gear wheels decreases so as to increase their service life and eliminate the necessity to employ highly strengthened gear wheels.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1995Date of Patent: September 2, 1997Assignee: Namco LimitedInventor: Toshiya Ohara

Patent number: 5569085Abstract: A gun game machine wherein the player can hold a model gun in the hand away from an machine casing. This gun game machine comprises a bullet hitting optical detection unit installed in the model gun for detecting a simulated bullet hitting position, a sliding cover provided on an exposed outward portion of the gunbarrel of the model gun and slidable in the longitudinal direction of the gunbarrel section, and a cover driving means for instantaneously moving the sliding cover at high speed. The model gun and the game machine casing may be coupled to each other by means of a flexible cable containing electric conductors. The sliding cover makes a long reciprocating motion similar to the so-called blow-back movement of an actual gun, so that the player can feel a similar reaction or impact corresponding to the firing of the actual gun. This simulated firing operation also serves to attract spectators to the game.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1995Date of Patent: October 29, 1996Assignee: Namco LimitedInventors: Hiroshi Igarashi, Azuma Mochizuki, Yoshitaka Kajima, Toshiya Ohara, Hideki Inoue, Shigeki Tohyama
