  • Patent number: 6772517
Abstract: In order to provide a light heat insulating member having both an extremely low thermal conductivity and a high heat resistance in an atmosphere, in which pressure is reduced, a core member consisting of accumulated heat resisting inorganic fiber is put between a high temperature side skin member and a low temperature side skin member made of heat resisting fiber textile and these three members are tied all together in one body by sewing, using heat resisting inorganic fiber thread. It is possible to reduce the thermal conductivity to an extremely small value by adding a material having a high emissivity (SiC powder, SiC whisker) to the core member and to prevent scattering of material constructing the core member by covering side wall parts of the core member by the high temperature skin member.

  • Publication number: 20030185723
Abstract: A holding material is provided for a catalytic converter having a catalyst carrier, a casing for receiving the catalyst carrier. The holding material is interposed in a gap between the catalyst carrier and the casing while wound on the catalyst carrier. The holding material is constituted by a sewn product of a mat material formed by collection of not smaller than 100 cc/5 g by wet volume of inorganic fiber without use of any binder.

  • Publication number: 20030185724
Abstract: A holding material for a catalytic converter is interposed in a gap between a catalyst carrier and a metal casing receiving the catalyst carrier. The holding material includes a mat including alumina fiber and mullite fiber, wherein the alumina fiber and the mullite fiber are unitarily collected to form the holding material having a predetermined thickness.

  • Publication number: 20020025904
Abstract: The present invention provides a catalyst carrier holding member to be fitted into a gap between a catalyst carrier and a casing accommodating the catalyst carrier. The catalyst carrier holding member includes a three-dimensional molded article having flexible inorganic fiber and an inorganic expansive admixture, if desired. The flexible inorganic fiber is bound together by a binder in a compression-deflected state. A surface in contact with the catalyst carrier is shaped substantially in conformity to the outer shape of the catalyst carrier, and a surface in contact with the casing is substantially in conformity to the inner shape of the casing. The catalyst carrier holding member has a thickness equal to or larger than the gap.
