  • Patent number: 5485612
Abstract: A computer system has a plurality of processors, each having a local memory. An expression is represented by operands and operations and is expressed in a form of a tree. The operands are assigned to leaf nodes of the tree and the operations are assigned to interior nodes. Processors which store an operand represented by a leaf node are assigned to the leaf node. The tree is traced in a bottom-up fashion to determine a set of candidate processors to be assigned to each of the interior nodes. The candidate processors are determined from processors which are assigned to children nodes of each interior node in accordance with a majority method. The majority method is based on a rule that a processor which is most frequently assigned to the children nodes of an interior node is determined as a candidate processor. A root processor is assigned to a root node of the interior nodes from the candidate processors.

  • Patent number: 5096315
Abstract: The present invention relates to an ink ribbon winding mechanism for a printer which prints with an ink ribbon. It is constructed by disposing a ribbon winding gear, which is connected with an ink ribbon winding shaft through a slipping mechanism, and a detection driving gear for detecting markers for color identification for a color ink ribbon, which is connected directly with the winding shaft, and by locating a transmission gear for transmitting the driving force of a driving source selectively to these two gears between the driving source driving the ink ribbon winding shaft and the winding gear as well as the detection driving gear. The marker for color identification are detected correctly by directly transmitting the driving force from the driving source to the ribbon winding shaft at the detetion of the markers in the color ink ribbon.

  • Patent number: 5064301
Abstract: A thermal printer which always performs a satisfactory printing operation regardless of whether a ribbon cassette mounted for printing houses an ink ribbon for hot release mode printing or an ink ribbon for cold release mode printing. Hot release mode printing is satisfactory for printing normal printing papers, while cold release mode printing is satisfactory for printing OHP (overhead projection) papers. The printer is capable of sensing the difference between ribbon cassette having an ink ribbon for hot release mode printing and a ribbon cassette having an ink ribbon for cold release mode printing, when mounted on the printer for printing. The printer upon sensing the type of ribbon cassette mounted, then adjusts its components, if necessary, so that they are configured in locations appropriate to perform satisfactory printing according to the type of ink ribbon housed in the ribbon cassette mounted.

  • Patent number: 4644371
Abstract: A thermal printer having a reciprocable carriage on which a thermal head is carried. The printer further includes a toothed rack and a driving plate both of which are rotatably held to a shaft. The rack acts to rotate the thermal head toward and away from a recording sheet. The driving plate has a protrusion for rotating the rack in one direction. A pin protruding from the driving plate on opposite side to the rack is fitted in a grooved cam, which serves to rotate the driving plate. A tension spring is mounted between the rack and the driving plate to cause the protrusion of the driving plate to angularly bias the rack in one direction so that the force of the tension spring urges the head toward the recording sheet.
