This task is attained by a support for imaging materials which comprises a paper mainly composed of natural pulp as a base, a resin layer (A) comprising a resin having film-formability coated on one side of the paper base on which an image forming layer is provided-and a resin layer (B) mainly composed of a polyethylene resin coated on another side of the paper base, wherein the natural pulp has a fiber length of 0.60 mm or less, the paper base has a density of 1.05 g/cm3 or more, and the resin layer (B) mainly composed of a polyethylene resin is coated at 200 m/min or more.

    Abstract: Disclosed are resin-coated paper having on one side of its base paper a first resin layer made of a resin composition obtained by melt-blending 90 to 65 parts by weight of a high-density polyethylene resin having a melt flow rate of 10.0 g/10 min to 40.0 g/10 min and a density of 0.960 g/cm.sup.3 or more and 10 to 35 parts by weight of a low-density polyethylene resin or a medium-density polyethylene resin, which has a melt flow rate of 0.2 g/10 min to 2 g/10 min, a density of 0.935 g/cm.sup.3 or less, a percentage of molecules with a molecular weight of 500,000 or more of 10% by weight or more and a critical shear rate of 0.5 (l/sec) or less, said resin composition obtained by the melt-blending having a critical shear rate of 10 (l/sec) or less; and a process for producing the resin-coated paper. The resin-coated paper is good in the molding processability of the resin layer, is excellent in the adhesion between the resin layer and the base paper, and contains only a small amount of a gel formed.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a process for producing a titanium dioxide pigment used for a resin-coated paper type photographic support, comprising the following steps:(a) a step of adding at least one alkaline earth metal compound in an amount of 0.01-2.0% by weight in terms of a metal oxide based on the titanium dioxide before calcination step and(b) an acid-washing step of washing the titanium dioxide at acidic state after the calcination step and before a step of surface treatment with a hydrated metal oxide,and wherein particle size of the titanium dioxide pigment is 0.110-0.150 .mu.m shown by number-average diameter obtained by measuring the diameter in a certain direction using an electron microscope. A photographic support which comprises the above titanium dioxide pigment is also disclosed. Occurrence of die lip stain and microgrit are substantially reduced in the photographic support and a photographic material made thereof exhibits improved image sharpness.

This resin-coated paper type photographic support has good adhesion between the base paper and the resin layer on the side opposite from the photographic layer, excellent in qualities such as anticurl properties, cutting properties and capable of high-speed production.
