  • Publication number: 20120134581
Abstract: The compression processing unit 30 of the image processing apparatus makes the color conversion process section 50 to the layout analysis processing section 53 extract the text string region, and makes the foreground layer generating section 54 extract the foreground pixel from the text string region to generate the foreground layer. The line detection process section 52 extracts the line art from the input image data, and removes the pixel block configuring the line art from the foreground pixel-block mask generated by the foreground extracting section 51. The layout analysis processing section 53 estimates the direction of the text string in accordance with the distance of the foreground regions and the number of connected foreground regions, and merges the foreground regions connected in the estimated direction, to extract the text string region.

  • Publication number: 20110169969
Abstract: A captured image processing system includes a portable terminal apparatus and an image output apparatus. The portable terminal apparatus captures images consecutively more than once while detecting a change in position of the portable terminal apparatus during the image capture (S10), and transmits, to the image output apparatus, (i) a plurality of pieces of captured image data and (ii) motion information on the change in position which change has been detected for each of the plurality of pieces of captured image data (S15).

  • Publication number: 20110096993
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to methods and systems for segmenting a digital image into regions. A frequency-of-occurrence of image values may be determined excluding a portion of pixels in a digital image. An image value associated with a peak in the frequency-of-occurrence of image values may be identified and associated with an image label. Pixel locations may be labeled based on the associated labels and image values. Additionally, unreliable pixels may be determined and labeled based on the associated labels and image values, and an unreliable pixel may be assigned a label after multiple scan passes of a classification map.

  • Patent number: 7876959
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to systems, methods and devices for detection of text in an image using an initial text classification result and a verification process. In particular, a support region of a candidate text pixel in a text-candidate map may be expanded to produce a revised text-candidate map. Pictorial regions in the image may be discriminated based on an entropy measure using masking and the revised text-candidate map, and the revised text-candidate map may be refined based on the pictorial regions.

  • Publication number: 20110001994
Abstract: A foreground layer generating unit generates a foreground layer on the basis of a foreground mask generated by a foreground mask generating unit and an original image. A binary image processing unit generates N binary images corresponding to N kinds of foreground identifiers on the basis of the foreground layer, and sets a plurality of tiles for each of the N binary images. Further, the binary image processing unit determines whether or not adjacent tiles are to be merged, and then sets tiles obtained by merging tiles determined to be merged, and leaving tiles determined not to be merged as they are. An image compressing unit cuts out rectangular regions from the individual set tiles by employing the binary images, and compresses the rectangular regions.

  • Publication number: 20100303360
Abstract: A foreground pixel block extraction process section divides input image data into a plurality of pixel blocks, and classifies each pixel block as a uniform density pixel block or foreground pixel block. By performing above process, the foreground pixel block extraction process section extracts foreground pixel blocks. A foreground color calculation process section calculates the foreground colors from the extracted foreground pixel blocks as color information. A labeling process section extracts connected foreground pixel block areas as foreground pixel areas by giving the same label to a plurality of adjacent foreground pixel blocks. From these processing results, a foreground pixel extraction process section calculates a representative color for each foreground pixel area, and extracts pixels having pixel values close to the representative color as foreground pixels.

  • Publication number: 20090148059
Abstract: With the use of a vector quantization technique, an index image, which is obtained by replacing an image on a block-by-block basis, each block consisting of a predetermined number of pixels, with any of a plurality of different pixel patterns and representing the pixel patterns by index values of the respective pixel patterns, is decoded by referring to a code book containing the pixel patterns and the index values of the pixel patterns in association with each other. When decoding an index image on the block-by-block basis into pixel patterns corresponding to the index values, the pixel pattern of each block is scaled, and additionally pixels near a contour in the pixel pattern after scaling are redrawn based on contour vector information corresponding to the pixel pattern.
