  • Publication number: 20230294765
Abstract: A socket joint having an offset housing configuration and reduced stud diameter can improve steering performance while being able to mate with standard vehicle components. In one implementation, the joint has an offset configuration along with a spherical bearing, where a central housing axis is radially offset from a central stud axis. With the offset configuration, the size of the stud is smaller than with typical joints. In one embodiment, a ratio of the housed stud diameter to the housing outer diameter is between 1:1.5 and 1:2.72. In some implementations, there is a transition surface between the housed stud portion and an attachment stud portion on the stud. One or more helical oil grooves may be located between the transition surface and a retaining ring groove. The retaining ring groove can be used to situate a retaining ring that holds the stud assembly together.

  • Patent number: 11649841
Abstract: The tie rod assembly union includes a tube sleeve and a tie rod shaft that extends into the tube sleeve such that the tie rod shaft and the tube sleeve overlap with one another. In the overlapping area, each of the tie rod shaft and the tube sleeve has at least one set of openings. A C-shaped clamp is disposed about the tube sleeve. The clamp has a curved inner surface which engages both tube sleeve halves. The clamp has a first set of apertures which are spaced outwardly from the curved inner surface and a second set of apertures which extend to the curved inner surface. A first fastener extends through the first set of apertures to tighten the clamp onto the tube sleeve. A second fastener extends through the second set of apertures and through aligned openings in the tie rod shaft and tube sleeve.

  • Patent number: 11168734
Abstract: The tie rod end includes a housing with an inner bore that extends along a central axis. A stud is partially received in the inner bore and has a shank portion which extends out of the inner bore for attachment with a gearbox. The tie rod end further includes an elastic boot body which extends from a first boot end, which is sealed with the housing, to a second boot end. A boot bearing, which is made of a plastic material, is secured with the second boot end. The boot bearing is in a dynamic sealing engagement with the shank portion of the stud. The boot bearing presents a plurality of radially inwardly extending and annularly-shaped ribs that contact the shank portion.

  • Patent number: 9227661
Abstract: The steering mechanism includes a center link which extends between opposite longitudinal ends. Each end has a bore with threads which are spaced from the end by an unthreaded portion. A tie rod includes a bore with threads that are spaced form an end of the tie rod by an unthreaded portion. A length adjuster threadedly connects one of the longitudinal ends of the center link with the tie rod. The length adjuster includes threaded sections and an unthreaded middle section. The unthreaded middle section overlaps with the unthreaded portions of the center link and tie rod bores respectively. A first clamp is clamped around the overlapping unthreaded portion of the center link bore and the unthreaded middle section of the length adjuster, and a second clamp is clamped around the overlapping unthreaded portion of the tie rod bore and the unthreaded middle section of the length adjuster.
