  • Publication number: 20060251204
Abstract: The invention describes a product and a method for generating electrical power directly from nuclear power. More particularly, the invention describes the use of a liquid semiconductor as a means for efficiently converting nuclear energy, either nuclear fission and/or radiation energy, directly into electrical energy. Direct conversion of nuclear energy to electrical energy is achieved by placing nuclear material in close proximity to a liquid semiconductor. Nuclear energy emitted from the nuclear material, in the form of fission fragments or radiation, enters the liquid semiconductor and creates electron-hole pairs. By using an appropriate electrical circuit an electrical load is applied and electrical energy generated as a result of the creation of the electron-hole pairs.

  • Patent number: 5677078
Abstract: An electrochemical cell and a method of manufacturing the same. Plates of opposite polarity are wound spirally and end connectors with protruding hubs are attached to each end. Elastomeric sleeves are fitted around both of the hubs. The assembly is placed within a casing having a jacket and an end with a hole through it, whereby one end connector hub and its associated sleeve extends through the casing end hole. The end connector hub is radially expanded against the sleeve by installing a blind rivet in the end connector hub, thereby causing the sleeve to radially expand into the casing. A casing cover having a hole through it is placed on the other end. A blind rivet similarly expands the end connector hub into its sleeve, and the sleeve is expanded into the cover. The plates may be of the very thin type, and the end connectors may be attached by casting them onto the thin plates.

  • Patent number: 5045086
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for the production of electrochemical cells having superior recharge and discharge capabilities. The cells are characterized by the use of ultra-thin non-perforated negative and positive films of lead or nickel to be used in lead acid and nickel cadmium systems. The method includes the use of a single sheet of separator material that has been infiltrated with electrolyte prior to its spiral winding into a mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4592972
Abstract: Electrochemical cell or battery housing modules are joined together to form an integral vibration-resistant multi-unit battery through adherence together of corresponding ribs formed on the outer walls of the modules.

  • Patent number: 4493221
Abstract: A method for shifting a transmission with a predominantly mechanical speed sensing actuator to within a 10 percent shifting zone around a chosen operating line on an engine rpm/torque map by matching the force balance of the driver pulley to a force balance on the driven pulley.A variable speed belt drive transmission system with a predominantly mechanical speed sensing driver pulley and a torque sensing driven pulley that responds to an operating line, monotonic in torque having a slope from about 0.004 lb-ft/rpm to about 0.060 lb-ft/rpm where the driver pulley has an actuator that controls speed for a chosen torque value. The actuator has at least one centrifugal weight connected to an end of a torque producing spring to wind the spring. A second end of the spring is operatively connected through an articulated linkage to a movable half of the pulley such that the generated axial force is not directly proportional to square of the speed.
