  • Publication number: 20200008916
Abstract: Methods according to aspects of the present invention relate to the determination of whether a female ruminant ungulate is open or not open using flow cytometry to detect an expression level of an interferon-stimulated gene in leukocytes of a biological sample from the female ruminant ungulate.
    Type: Application

  • Patent number: 10456068
Abstract: A “one-step”, single-handed device for obtaining small, precise volumes of fluid from animals is able to quickly and easily draw a fluid sample. The device comprises an extraction component and a collection component that are coupled together and disposed along a grip handle. The user manipulates the device so as to initiate the extraction of the fluid, and then collect the fluid in a component that can quickly and easily be removed from the grip handle—allowing the handle to be re-loaded and used again and again. The extraction component may comprise a hypodermic needle and the collection component may comprise a pre-calibrated pipette, where the pipette is positioned directly behind the needle and will thus draw the extracted fluid into a pre-sized chamber within the pipette.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 28, 2016
Date of Patent: October 29, 2019
Assignees: Med-Ag Industries, Inc., The Penn State Research Foundation
Inventors: John V. Vargo, Louis M. Bassler, Troy L. Ott, Robert W. VanDine

  • Patent number: 8658431
Abstract: A method and kit for determining whether an animal is not pregnant, or is pregnant following a breeding. The level of expression of a pregnancy induced protein is determined in an animal for which pregnancy status information is desired and the level is compared to that of the level in animals that are not pregnant.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 13, 2006
Date of Patent: February 25, 2014
    Assignee: Idaho Research Foundation
    Inventor: Troy L. Ott
  • Publication number: 20100062420
Abstract: A method for determining the presence of a viral infection in an animal not known to have been infected with a virus or other disease-causing microbial organism by determining the level of Mx protein or other Type I Interferon-inducible protein in the animal.
    Type: Application
