Patent number: 10508718Abstract: In an internal combustion engine including a driving-sprocket cam chain guide 70 for guiding a cam chain 47 along a driving sprocket 45, as viewed in a crankshaft axial direction, a guide body 71 of the driving-sprocket cam chain guide 70 extends beyond a winding termination point P of the cam chain 47 on the driving sprocket 45 to a position adjacent to a chain moving surface 51c of a cam chain tensioner 51, on which the cam chain 47 slides. The engine provides a cam-chain dropout preventing function to the cam chain guide, thus reducing load on the cam chain tensioner and improving durability of the tensioner lifter.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2017Date of Patent: December 17, 2019Assignee: HONDA MOTOR CO., LTD.Inventors: Tsugio Ikeda, Shigeyuki Hara, Masaji Narushima, Koichi Tsutsumi, Hiroto Takeichi

Patent number: 6370977Abstract: A transmission for a vehicle including first and second rotating shafts which are rotatable by the torque transmitted through a clutch. Each shaft includes several transmission gears. A resisting member can be disposed between a gear and its corresponding shaft, such that the resisting member reduces the difference in rotating speed between the first and second shafts. The resisting member serves to reduce shift shock and noise generated during shifting. Additional resisting members can be placed on either the first or second shaft in order to achieve reduced shift shock and noise.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2000Date of Patent: April 16, 2002Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Katsuhiro Kubo, Tsugio Ikeda, Norikazu Maeda

Patent number: 5307865Abstract: The inlet and outlet passages communicating with a water-cooled engine oil cooler for a vehicle, such as a motorcycle, are arranged for bypass of a regulated amount of oil from the inlet passage to the outlet passage to enhance the flowability of the cooled oil. Provision is made for a replaceable flow control orifice between the oil inlet and outlet passages to regulate oil viscosity. Also described is an arrangement providing for mounting the cooler to the crankcase or oil pan surface whereby air flowing past the cooler during movement of the vehicle assists the effects of the cooling liquid.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1992Date of Patent: May 3, 1994Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Takashi Inagaki, Tokuji Yoshimoto, Michio Okubo, Kouji Okazaki, Tsugio Ikeda

Patent number: 4920825Abstract: A vehicle engine, particularly adapted for motorcycle application, includes a housing structure in which the cylinder block, the crankcase and the transmission case are integrally formed and openings are provided in separate, angularly displaced walls of the housing for accessing the crankcase and transmission case respectively to permit the crankshaft and the transmission to be independently installed or demounted with respect to each other. Also, the detachable cover for closing one of the side openings of the housing is formed as a stopper for preventing axial disengagement of the starter apparatus ring gear from the crankcase.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1988Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Assignee: Honda Giken Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kouji Okazaki, Tsugio Ikeda, Takashi Inagaki

Patent number: 4807571Abstract: An exhaust timing control apparatus for two-cycle engines of the type having one or more exhaust ports extending outwardly from the cylinder. A valve body is pivotally mounted within the exhaust passage in a recess specifically provided therefore. The valve has a control surface approaching the cylinder to define an apparent upper timing edge of the exhaust port. Holes are provided through the valve body for flow to operate to inhibit the build up of carbon deposits which often inhibit the operation of the valve. An inclined surface may be formed on the surface of the valve body to facilitate the removal of carbon. Edges may also be provided on the valve body which cooperate with the walls of the recess in the exhaust passage to knock off carbon build up such that it might be conveyed through the exhaust pipe and from the system.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1987Date of Patent: February 28, 1989Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hitoshi Yamamoto, Takumi Tottori, Tsugio Ikeda, Kouji Okazaki
